Hey all! I've heard a whole lot about Spyderco knives, so I figured I had to try them out too :D I had to go with the Scorpius plain edge stainless steel handle with VG-10 steel. I saw that almost everyone had an Endura, Caly3, or Delica. So I went with something different. What caught me was the design, and the size. Its a nice sleek, sexy design. I had cheapy knife with the same kind of handle, and it felt really nice.

My EDC now is a Buck Alpha hunter folder, and as you guys know, the things pretty much a monster for an EDC. The blade is 3.5 inches, and the whole this is just a little over 8. It's a little hard to cut stuff in public without calling too much attention to me. So the Scorpius' size was a big deciding factor for me.

I did have a couple of questions though. 1)I have the Smiths Tri-hone Arkansas Stone sharpening system. It sharpens all my knives back to their original factory edge, maybe even better. Will it work just as well on my Scorpius? 2) Does anyone out there have a Scorpius that can give me feedback on how they like it, how it handles, ect? 3) I'm also looking for another knife. Another Spydey, of course, with a blade under 3 inches. This'll be a boxcutter/box opener/over all utility blade. And its gotta be under $70. I know of a couple of trusted sites that'll conform to that. I would very much appreciate any suggestions you have for me!

I'm sure I'll be coming here for all my cutlery questions. I just started collecting about a year ago, so I still have a long time to collect ahead of me. Thanks very much for any answers/suggestions in advance!

Congrats on your first Spyder. The Scorpius is a nice one. I've only had a chance to handle one as opposed to carrying/using, but I liked it very much.

For sharpening, yeah, your stones should be fine as long as the angle's right.

For another knife under $70 and blade 3" or less, you could look at the Delica, Calypso Jr., Dragonfly and Salt 1.

For most cutting chores VG-10 works well when sharpened at a 30 degree angle (inclusive). I don't know what angle the Smith uses, but if it's thicker than 30 degrees, you might want to consider Spyderco's Sharpmaker. It gives you a choice of 30 or 40 degree inclusive angles.

None of my Spyders are sharpened at more than 30, and a couple are a little under that after resetting the bacl bevel. They all do fine. I just touch them up some after use and they're always ready to go. Your Scorpius shouldn't be any different.

Congrats on your first Spydie. Usually VG-10 takes and holds a good edge at 40°. You can sharpen it at 30° with satisfactory results as well. It will be sharper, naturally, but the edge won't last that long.
For a smaller boxcutter I'd highly recommend a Dodo. I suspect it may be a wee bit more expensive than 70$, but it worth the investment (S30V and G-10 is a hard to beat combination).

I got my Scorpius yesterday afternoon, and it is a beauty. It fits so perfectly in my hand and came razor sharp out of the box. This'll be my new EDC. I'll probably get a sharpmaker to make sure I don't screw the edge up and keep it in tip top shape. Mr. Glesser, you are a genius. Thanks for making these fantastic little knives. :D
