I own 1 knife. How do I sharpen it?

You guys are awesome! Thanks for all the replies!

I'm leaning toward the Sharpmaker because everyone seems to recommend it.

I'm intrigued by the Lansky Guided Diamond Stone kit. I feel like the guide rod is a nice safety.

Also, considering the Work Sharp Guided system. Been reading a lot of positive comments about it. But I don't know how consistent I'd be.

S30v has vanadium in it, consider a diamond stone for whatever system you go with.

No need to invest a whole lot into sharpening especially if you only have one or two knives. Lansky diamond kit will work fine. Or just the basic lansky kit and add some Venev bonded Diamond stones for the lansky to it.

If you go sharpmaker pick up the diamond or cbn rods they make. Just use it very light or the diamond or cbn will fall off. Also sic stones can be bought too from congress tools.

So, I was going to get the Spyderco Sharpmaker but I found the Work Sharp Guided Sharpening System at a local retailer this weekend. I was fairly impressed with it. Having NEVER sharpened a knife before I was able to get a couple of my kitchen knives and the Kershaw fairly sharp. The Kershaw was sharp enough to cut paper with a slicing motion, but I certainly couldn't push it through the paper. I need more practice. I've been asking family and friends if they have any knives that need sharpening :D

I'm still kinda wondering how I'd do with the Sharpmaker or the Lansky.

An angle guide and a diamond hone like DMTs are all you need to achieve a razor edge on just about any blade (extreme recurves excepted).
