I prefer the winter and fall vs. the spring and summer

Fall is my favorite, winter second. I hate spring, because that means summer is coming, and summer is last on my list. I hate the heat.

...Acctually just checked lowest USA temp record and we don't have the record. Lots of other states have had -60 records some almost -70 Alaska had -80!. We have the coldest record temp in the state though.

I've spent some time in Minnesota, I can't recall the semiconductor company I was teaching at but it was near the Mall of America, you guys get some cold ass weather but I'll say this, I never met a group of people who handled it so well. :)

I'm in San Diego County, so for the most part it's one big season with small summer and winter peaks. Summer does limit many of the best inland hiking & camping options, but the beaches look tasty. :) For motorcycling the weak winter can prevent riding at higher elevations where the best twisties live. I guess I like all seasons for different reasons...calling it a draw.

I very much like each season for different reasons. If I had to pick two favorites, it would be Spring and Fall. It's funny. I get used to no leaves on the trees and being able to see further during the winter months.... sometimes I almost hate to see the leaves pop out. But, spring is like a can of spinach (Popeye, ya know), it puts a lot of new energy into my mind and body. There is a reason why people tend to die during the winter months.

I don't much like to hike in really hot weather and I dislike tics A LOT.

I think it was the winter where we had 3 feet of snow on the roof that needed to be removed that convinced me I need to move south. That same year the municipal snow removal bill was in the 7 figures. :barf:

Coldest I have experienced is -50c with windchill -70c. That was pretty cold.

I don't like when the streams are frozen over cuz that ends of my trout/char stream fishing. Also a deep snow base puts the breaks on longer outings. Kinda hard to cover good distance in the snow plus adds more time to setup camp. Other than that winter rocks. Summer does offer swimming and a chance to mess around with rattlesnakes and other critters, in a responsible way of course.

I live not too far from you I.N.F.K. and I really appreciate the change of season we have. Like Stabman I prefer spring and fall over summer and winter. April and May are probably my favorite months because I enjoy fishing, looking for mushrooms, turkey hunting, hiking, and camping. But don't get me wrong, I love floating the local streams with good friends and a cooler of refreshment when it's 90 degrees. I also fish the winter months getting out a lot in December and January when I usually have the water to myself. My wife and I often talk about moving somewhere the climate is more stable but we both know we would miss the full range of weather we have in Virginia not to mention the mountains and streams.

If you like the winter, I.N.F.K. you would love it here where I live. We have so much winter that spring often forget to show up.

Greetings from the arctic part of Norway, where winter still is looming on the mountain side.

I've lived in Minnesota for almost my entire life, and there is a lot to like about it, but our seasons are so out of balance it's absurd. It's not unusual to have snow on the ground and the temperature well below freezing for half the year, and the summers are disgustingly hot and humid. A week ago, I was up hiking near the US/Canada border, and there was still snow on the ground and ice on Lake Superior, with temps ranging from 45-65F for the first four days we were there. On the fifth day, it was well into the 70s, and back home near Minneapolis, it has been in the 80s since we got home. There were days in the "spring" where there was a 40-degree swing from the low to high temps for a given day. Dumb.

My main complaint is that spring and fall are virtually nonexistent most years. I am pretty active with gardening, and the long winter really put me at a disadvantage with planting. I have to hope for a reasonably long fall.

Each season has its own fun things to play with.
This is what I've found several days ago.

I may be put on blast for it if my fellow snowadians heard it but I definitely like winter more. I get all messed up in the heat, I can deal with it but would much prefer moving 10-15km a day in the snow vs dying of heat and constantly being picked up and flown off by Mosquitos.

When I was younger, I liked winter. As a teen, I was a scout in AK, and our troop camped/backpacked one weekend a month, no matter what the weather. I truly enjoyed winter, the colder and snowier the better.

Then there was a day, when I was about 40 years of age, when I looked out the window of our home in KS, and was officially sick of winter. I was over it. Winter went from an exciting season to one of gray drudgery, and it's been that way for me since.

I applaud those who enjoy winter...I did for years...but I prefer the other three seasons now. Even the blast furnace of summer!

I'm definitely a Winter/Fall guy then Spring and finally Summer.... I live in a high-desert region and the mountains are in easy view, but in the city the snow *never* stays long enough.... I grew up in Northern Michigan and simply loved the Fall/Winter seasons and now I really more appreciate Winter, but Fall is still a close 2nd.

All seasons have their benefits and merit. Perhaps you can find those and enjoy them while they are here?
