• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

Picked this one up earlier in the week. Awesome knife, Awesome sheath!!! I first saw it around xmas time just after Ian had finished it and asked for first refusal, I got a call from him saying he was ready to part with it and here it is. Fit and finish second to none.

1095 steel
15" overall length
10 1/4" tip to guard
Macassar Ebony with red fiber liners

Very nice.

I don't think I have ever seen a forged knife from Ian, but I am going to ask anyway, is this a forged or stock removal knife?

Keith, in answer to your question it's stock removal. Still a mighty fine knife feels just right in the hand a real mans knife, very well ballanced.
Very nice.

There's nothing wrong with stock removal knives. I was just wondering if maybe Ian had given forging a try.

Is this knife going to be a user? I ask this because being made from 1095, the tang is going to stain from being handled.

Keith it will no be a user, We have to be a bit careful what we carry over here, so it will be going in my Bowie cabinet

Thanks for posting this Rick.:) Thanks also for all the comments.:D
Keith, I'm not really much of a forger. I enjoy it, but find stock removal more enjoyable. These are my only forged blades.
Rough forged to shape from flat bar. It started to remind me of a Moran M11and so that's what I based it on.

First attempt at damascus. A mighty 9 layers!

And one I forged from a 1 1/4" ball bearing. Wish I'd had a power hammer for this one..

Cheers,

I had to smile when I read this. I can just imagine the panic if you went out in the streets with that one on your belt. :D

Still, that doesn't mean you can't chop some wood for the BBQ in your own back yard now does it?
