I’m not trying to sell a knife. I found a knife at a local retailer and I need to know if it’s a fair price. This is a rare knife and I cannot find it’s value anywhere. I turn to this forum and I get my hand slapped? Really?

I’m humbly and genuinely asking for your help.

If you read the rules, you’d understand that your intent has nothing to do with it. Whether to sell or simply for information, you can’t request info about knife values.

Welcome to Blade Forums.

Can anyone tell me where I can find this information without breaking this forums rules? Thanks again.

You're genuinely and not so humbly asking for something in return for nothing. If you want a value estimate, or to take advantage of any other of the many resources available here, support the forum in turn and buy a membership.

A gold membership is about the price of a decent dinner. Hardly extravagant.

Yes, under the site menu select "paid subscriptions" and select either gold or platinum. Then you'll be well within the rules.

Basically a discontinued knife model’s value is what you are willing to pay for it.
Welcome to the forums, a gold membership will give you excellent benefits.

Yup! To the OP.... just do a google search of the knife and you can easily find what it originally sold for.
That being said, there are $200 knives you can get for $100 “used” and some $200 knives (rare models) that will be hard to find for less than $300.

I get it, thanks. Will not keep asking.

To those with polite answers telling me about the rules and the why. Even about the membership. Thanks!

A lot of new members or ones that don't post often forget about the rules. We all do sometimes. But with values, it's simple, as a non-paying member you can not ask for this information. Good value information is very hard to obtain and it is simply better to search flea bay or other places that sell such things to see pricing. My own experience with knife values is the best you can hope for is a range. That is the way with firearms also.

I still think that final sales prices should be posted on the exchange when something sells as it helps the next guy. I might have say a SOG knife and wonder it it's even worth trying to sell it....

Your best bet is to go on ebay as Stelth suggested and search for past instances of how much the knife sold for. I am not savvy with ebay so I’m not sure how to do it but I know it can be done.

That said maybe you could frame the question by telling us what price the local retailer is selling it for and whether or not one should buy it at that price.

On eBay, find the "filter" drop down menu and select "completed items" and "sold items". The search will then show you the most recent sales of whatever knives you searched for. I did it for the model you mentioned but I don't think I'm allowed to tell you what prices I saw.

OP - the knife is worth xxx-$30. Once you use the $30 to buy a gold membership, xxx will become an actual number.;)

This right here is the exact way not to get new paid members. See, I’m a grown man, and rude sarcastic answers like this will do the opposite. There simply is no reason to be rude or entitled just because you are sitting behind a keyboard. Your $30 may get you the xxx info, not the right to stereotype everyone and be a jerk.

If you are interested in knives, Blade Forums is the best place to hang.

The problem I have with knives.... my interests change over time.... stuff that I paid say $100-$200 perhaps 10 years ago has no value to me any more and only takes up space in my knife reject rubber maid tub. Eventually, I will toss them in the trash and be done with it. That said, if I am going to sell, I want a fair price. I'm not Goodwill.

Added: I re-read this and was thinking about it.... I guess what it boils down to is that I would rather throw them in the trash than sell them for next to nothing. That is the harsh reality. But most are still very good knives.
