This right here is the exact way not to get new paid members. See, I’m a grown man, and rude sarcastic answers like this will do the opposite. There simply is no reason to be rude or entitled just because you are sitting behind a keyboard. Your $30 may get you the xxx info, not the right to stereotype everyone and be a jerk.

The reason (in my opinion) for buying a gold membership to ask for values is that it keeps the place more a community than just a resource. If it wasn't the case you'd get a dozen random people asking for valuation and then disappearing again, there is no incentive to stick around and contribute something. The people who buy a membership have more reason to come back and participate more in the hobby at large and not just to get information on their pawn shop/estate sale/basement or garage find.
Most of the time it's people who make an account just for that single question/answer and are never seen again. And don't take it personally, as I said, we've just seen it all too frequently so people are a bit salty at times. As to your question, as others have stated, there are ways to find your own evaluation, but ultimately even asking here won't get you too far (again my opinion) because we can only go by past sales for the most part and what we THINK it's worth, it might be worth more to you or less. ~200$ was retail as far I can say, I wouldn't pay that much for it, but maybe it's worth that to you. And some people buy a 1000$ knife here while the next person thinks it's overpriced the one who bought it might feel like it's perfectly reasonable.

Funny. I just go notified that it's time to renew my membership. Paypal.... last time I used it was when I paid last year's membership. I don't even know if I have the password as I am not particularly a paypal fan.

I understand. I could actually make a compelling argument for “Free” membership and making the forum a great community anyway, but I will not. It’s not my intent to argue with what’s in place here. I’m happy to abide by the rules. I belong to other forums where I am a valued member, where I don’t pay to belong.

Thank you for the courteous reply. There is nothing that will make this place better than politeness and courtesy.

I also belong to other forums where I am not a paid member. I am interested in knives and I enjoy the folks here for the most part. It is worth the membership to be able to participate. That said, years ago the only reason I got a gold membership was to spend time in the political forum. That got old. It is a clique. I let the membership lapse for a while and finally renewed. Now the dominant reason I have a paid membership is to be able to easily post pictures directly and not though some third party.

That is correct politeness and courtesy makes a place amazing. So does reading the rules when you join a forum for free, as you have done. The rules here work fine, and a “free” forum where anyone could ask values, would make it a lot more crowded and harder to search and find information. Bladeforums is full of knowledgeable people from all aspects of knifemaking and beyond. It is a great place to join. :) Even with a “basic” membership, members here are general very helpful and courteous. Except when someone breaks the rules, intentional or not. It shows a great deal of respect for the forum when the rules are read first.
I must point out that you started a second thread after your first one was closed, and in your post said “i turned to this forum and get my hand slapped. Really?” It could be flipped and pointed out that you came to this forum without reading the rules looking for information to help you out, and only you.
This is a place to SHARE information, and chat about sharp objects. Not a value assessment forum.
Im respectfully pointing all this out to say...we all welcome you to the forum, hope you participate and that you can understand where we are coming from.
Keep ‘em Sharp!

op, you wouldn't be paying to belong....youd be paying to support the costs for the owner to maintain and run this site for all of us.....

you can participate here for free, learn tons and ask participating makers and industry insiders questions....just not knife values and few other privileges ya get for paying to help support the cost of the site. its worth it to me to support the site........
