I realized something last night

I was out doing some wood chores with my son in the backyard. chopping wood, batoning, shavings, whittling, just messing around and cutting stuff. I started with the BH10 and everything was fine and then my son brought me my BK2 I now realize just how much better a knife the BK2 is than the 10 at actual bushcrafty wood chores. I want forget that again

Hey QT, I'm pretty sure we all know that the 10 is not going to out chop the 2, so what other "bushcrafty wood chores" does the 2 excel at compared to the 10? This is an honest question, no sarcasm.

the 10 is thinner. think nessmuk. it can baton, esp for making kindling and fixing up fatwood, you just don't want to clean godzilla's toenails with it. it should slice better. it should make feather sticks better. get under pancakes easier. me? i like the thumb-ramp as an option. weird, eh? :) it's an elegant tool for a generation that can appreciate the subtle uses of force ;D

for heavier stuff, i have a khukri shaped object (or two), and an axe. not everyone likes that option, and wants an all-in-one. look at all-in-one printer combos. kinda clunky.

"the bk2: the knife for all the stupid stuff you don't use a good knife for" (tm)

BK2 is the second oldest Becker knife, so it has a special place, in the hearts of my enemies...

:D

You guys all think the 10 is a light weight knife, now that's funny!

We don't screw around round here, we like big tools that do its job without bustin. Go big or go home. Hell I wish the bk9 was an inch longer and a little thicker

Me too, but I was actually thinking the other day how nice a longer 2 would be. I'm thinking like a 7" long BK2 blade might be an ultimate BK2 bush knife.

KaBar you can use that if you want; BK2 Ultimate with a 7" blade. ;)

i was using my loaner 10 (thanks murph!) and BK2 earlier this week. they are similar. the 10 is good at carving and what not. but if i wanted ultimate strength i'd take my BK2.

Don't we all, brother... don't we all.

JM, Clich was talking about the BK9 ;)

A BK9 at .25" thick and 10" long sounds like Spaceballs ludicrous.

A BK2 at .25" thick and 7" blade, wouldn't a CM-BK7 fit the bill, other than the clip point?
- The CM-BK7 is .21" thick as opposed to the KA-BAR at .188"

I'm not putting down the 10 by any means

for the wood prep I was doing last night the 2 just felt better in my hand

I'm also not saying the 10 is a novelty item either as it has its purpose but for me the 2 will still continue to get a bulk of the workload

I wasn't saying you were bruddah, it's just you had mentioned you thought the BK2 was better overall for "bushcrafty wood chores," but the only thing I had seen as an example was chopping which is a no-brainer. I wasn't sure if you found other tasks that maybe the blade weight or shape gave the BK2 a succinct advantage over the BK10.

THis is why I passed on the 10, not that it isnt the coolest knife out there..and the deal we were offered was VERY cool, but I am a knife user as well as a collector.
I just cant see anything beating out my BK2. Its the BEST knife for most things. I have said it before, it might not chop like the 9 or carve like my Mora's, but it can do both of those things very well, and that means I have all the bases covered with it. BK2, good for me, good for you.....2

The more I play around with it, the more I'm finding the 10 to be exceptionally bushcrafty. It would be a great stand alone blade for just about anything. It will even do a bit of chopping. Nice feel to it with the micartas.
