I really don't know what to say

Well the seller didn't outright say the knife was made in China, but the origin is obvious to me. The tang stamp is clearly visible and the seller writes, "this item is from the new manufacturer of Schrade."

....you can 'buy it now' $31.99 for a 171UH with sheath. What a classy bit of steel that would be..the component suppliers have made their margin of profit, manufacturer Mr Taylor has made his margin of profit and hedged his exchange rate costs followed by the the cost of shipping to Tennessee, the seller has made his margin of profit and covered the substantial Ebay fees and the cost of accepting Paypal in payment for the knife ....their was also the original cost of the sharpening stone and box..ALL out of the retail $31.99......and the point of all this is how much did the worker who created the knife and sewed the faux leather sheath etc receive for his/her toil??? Can't have been a lot left after all the margins.....which is why its being made in China and not USA.......Hoo Roo

I'm really into the 171 UH model range, so I thought I would buy one of the Chi-Taylor 171s, just to check it out, Lost for words was my reaction, poorly finished, and you could surf on the blade, there were that many ripples in the steel, this is compared to the several USA made 171s that I own, I got mine early last year and it was $ 27.99 inc shipping. plus the retailer was even making a profit on that low price. really like to know how much it costs to make these knives.

It would probably make you sick to know how little these knives cost to make. Likely pennies on the dollar. It makes me nervous that these same folks own so much of our national debt. I have seen the import prices on Pakistan knives and they are really, really cheap.

Yes, I would also like to know, and tried to do a little research but this is all I could find.

China is emerging as a chief rival. A worker at a Chinese factory typically costs a company 50 cents to $1 per hour, compared with $2 to $2.50 per hour in Mexico and $8.50 to more than $20 for the U.S.

All this just goes back to the fact that Schrade U.S.A. made a lot of knife for the money. I have compared my 14OT and 165OT to some high dollar custom knives that I have and I am not convinced that the custom knives are really all that superior to the Schrade factory production fixed blade knives. The sheer weight of knives like the 14OT and the 165OT is impressive.
