Hey guys! ^_^

So I scored this in the mail yesterday:

Which is neat because I totally forgot I even got it. ;) I heard Opinel was a really great company and I loved the Beechwood handle. It is so light! Amazing, and the Virobloc lock is so simple. I really like it. :) Plus, my bunny Pablo Picasso approves, which is cool. ^_~ I didn't realize it wasn't beveled. I mean, that's fine. Just an observation. And I can carry the No. 8 legally in Denver! Yusssss :] ♡

Anyways, how are you guys doing this morning? What are your thoughts on Opinel? I hope everybody has a great day! :)

PS: How would I go about softening/darkening the little pouch I got? It is really super stiff and lightly colored in kind of an unnatural strange way. I heard you can oil it; how do I do that/what kind of oil would I use? I only have mineral oil at the moment...

Opinel's are great knives! Inexpensive and really good slicers! There is a lot of love for Opinel here on BF.

I have a dozen or so Opinels. They are amongst my favorite knives. I've used them hard for tasks ranging from hunting and bushcraft to barn chores and gardening. I have a lot of experience fixing stickiness problems here in this front range weather, so hit me up if you have trouble.

Use leather dressing to soften and darken the slip. Dubbin or neatsfoot oil or mink oil or even a light cost of beeswax. Try not to get it inside, though, or you'll have it all over any knife you put in there and maybe have trouble getting the knife out.

And thanks for this Zieg!! I'm seriously into bushcraft hobbies right now so I will probably be asking you for some assistance sometime if that's cool! ^_^

I keep Opinels in my various tackle boxes for guilt-free use when fishing. Ditch the leather slip. Opinels don't cost THAT much to carry in a leather slip...

91bravo 91bravo the slip was like $4 so I just got it because. It has some good reviews on Amazon about keeping gunk out of the knife? So I guess that is cool. But you would know better than me.

I've used Neatsfoot oil for years on leather sheaths. It darken them some and gives them some weather protection, although you may need a couple of coats to get that pocket slip much darker. Works well for oiling bare leather strops, too.

Okay, neat. I'll try and find some, thanks dalefuller dalefuller ! ^_^ Yeah, this pouch is REALLY light colored. I definitely like darker leather in general.

Sno Seal is the best leather sealant I've used, bar none!
I was just about to suggest that.
Love that stuff.
Seeing that opinel and its legendary slicing abilities. ..
There may be an order to AKS in some crazy steel for a thin slicer, maybe even a friction folder!
Maybe 10V or M4...
May pick up an opinel some day and mess with it.

So far really liking my No 6 in stainless, very light and just grab it and go. I have a No 8 Gardeners knife I like with the drop point, a little bigger and good slicer. Will take them camping this summer, just too useful to leave at home.

Google claims the Opinel to be the best camping knife. I don't know, would you agree cbach8tw cbach8tw ? I know that's just Google.

Opinels don't do it for me. There is a big following here. When I want cheap and slicey, I go Mora or Vic SAK, Of course the Opinel is a "folding knife". Did you do the bunnies or the knife came that way? Cute.
