I really like my ZT 0562cf, do I really need a Hinderer XM18 3.5 skinny?

My dilemma is do I really need a Hinderer XM18 3.5" skinny? I've been going back and forth and just can't decide. I see some mention that they were honestly more impressed with their 0562?

No, you don't "need" a Hinderer.

I have a collection of ZT Hinderers (every model but not every blade/scale variation). The 0562 is the 1st one I bought and it's still the one I like best. Bought a Gen 6 XM and sold it almost immediately because it didn't offer me any more than the ZTs did and seemed like a waste of $, since I could buy 2-3 more ZTs for the price of the Hinderer.

However, if you just have to HAVE one and won't be happy until you do, then just buy one. You'll know w/in a few minutes (as I did) whether it's a knife that you want to keep or pass on to someone else. It will NOT be hard to resell.

I've had my ZT 0562cf for several years and it honestly doesn't see much pocket time even though it's a real "gem". I hope to change that this winter as it's time to start carrying my heavier/bigger knives. The 0562cf is absolutely amazing, the action, the ability to disappear in my pocket, the fit and finish and of course it's stunning good looks.

It seems my EDC go to as I work in the office 90% of the time consists of a lightweight smaller knife (Bugout, Para 3 LW have both dominated my carry this spring/summer).

Do I buy a Hinderer or grab an 0562ti and use the left over money on another knife?

Oh, and here's a pic of that sexy 0562cf from this past summer because every thread is better with a pic or two.

I also have ZT 0562CF and the Hinderers... I do not need them, but I enjoy them. So as long as it pleases your heart you do need it, it's the medicine to your soul... That's what the 4 out of 5 doctors here would recommend - Hinderer XM Skinny!

P.S. Just like any man needs at least one pair of good quality Italian leather shoes, you do need at least one Hinderer.

That might be my favorite post of the year! Well said!

One important difference that nobody is pointing out is that the Skinny is a liner lock and the 0562 and standard XM-18 are framelocks. That can have a huge difference if, for example, you just don't like liner locks.

The 3.5" skinny isn't a liner lock, just the 3".

I had both the 562cf and the 3.5" skinny out today, overall very similar but the ZT is a thicker, heavier knife. If you don't carry your 562 you probably wouldn't carry the skinny either, not much different in the pocket. I carry the skinny and regular 18's and a skinny 3" but not the 562 much. For me it's probably because I use the thumstuds/blade stops to open the blade more than the flippers and the one on the 562 is hard to use comfortably plus I have the Hinderers.... :)

Essentially the 562 and 3.5" XM18 have the same overall dimensions and for all intents and purposes are so similar that other than the thickness of the scales, liners and blades are the same knives. Even then the relative differences are pretty minor.

I owned a 562cf and sold it. I own a 3" xm-18 and a 3.5 inch xm-18 skinny (both triway). I prefer both of them to the 562 they feel better in hand. They just feel like more solid knives to me and look better asthetically. I never carried the 562cf as well it was too big and clumsy feeling.

I’d love to own a Hinderer, but for the clearance price that I payed for 0562cf, there’s no way in heck that I’d cough up that kind of money for something I carry every day and use at work.

If you're happy with the 0562, why would you "need" anything else?

Maybe because the grass is always greener? If that's the case. once you get your Hinderer, you'll find you "need" something else. When I got my Hinderer I found it didn't make my life any better, and I wound up selling it within a month. Turns out I didn't need it after all.

The Hinderer feels like a Hinderer, the ZT feels like a ZT. That is really what it boils down to IMO. I sold my first No Choil Slicer (gen4) because I thought the ZT was a better knife. But since the Skinny dropped, I have not carried my ZT. Gen6 Skinny is really a fantastic knife, if you like the way a Hinderer feels. I slightly prefer the Sheepsfoot and am hoping for some DLC No Choils next year.

If you have to ask this question then the answer is yes. I carry mine almost everyday at work and when not at work. Great work knife and just a great knife all around.
