I really want a good bowie knife can any one help?

I'm a big fan of Entrek (Merc, Ranger, Recon) but I'd also look at the TOPS Combat Bowie. Its under $200 and is a good "hard use" bowie style big blade. However, if you need a combat knife for "combat purposes" I'd just invest the money and get a real, combat knife. The CRK Pacific is outstanding in that regard. The other knives your citing are either purely decorative or at the very least questionable material-wise (damsacus bowie and the Gil Hibben stuff) The custom makers mentioned will set you back a serious chunk of change, that's if you can get on their waiting lists or find one second hand. Either way, good luck in your search.

Whatever else you get, come back to Entrek.
By the way, I dig the music in the Outbck vid. Aboriginalgroovy. I also laughed my ass off at the chopping bit...sounded like a kung-fu movie.
Thanks for that...wipes a tear...my face hurts from laughing...Dundee goes to Hong Kong!
I say get one...but don't be surprised when the blade snaps off at the hilt and buries itself in your face..unless you buy the EXACT knife in the vid, in which case you have my blessing.
Oh, and one other thing...if you can find a $200 dollar Steve Voorhis bowie, grab it immediately. You won't be dissapointed, I promise.

an Ontario RTAK II should serve your needs... for $99.97 its within price range: http://newgraham.com/store/product/4204/RTAK-II-PE-ONT-8628/

otherwise an RAT/ESEE Junglas should do the same or more for $159.50 http://newgraham.com/store/product/7512/RAT-ESEE-Junglas/

Good luck!

It looks like the OP is long gone, but this thread has raised some questions for me about Down Under's claims for their 440C heat treat. Wouldn't it be very difficult to do a differential hardening on 440C? And if you went to all that trouble...why use 440C?

considering that 'downunderknives' aren't made in Australia, i have more issues with them than merely their claimed heat treat.

Wouldn't it be very difficult to do a differential hardening on 440C?
afaik: yes.

And if you went to all that trouble...why use 440C?
exactly!

why use a mid grade stainless in a knife that large?

i'd probably prefer good old 1095 for a ~10" blade unless you look right up the other end of the exotica scale of steels and go for Infi (Busse) or Laminated VG-10 (Fallkniven).

i can't help but think if the OP is simply after a big arse knife then an ESEE Junglas would be a pretty good choice.

if it's a "combat" knife they're after, the Ka-Bar USMC has a long and proud history at a mind blowingly affordable price point.

i'm not saying it's impossible to get a great bowie for 200 dollars but long experience with many blades seems to favor custom or semi- custom cutters. quality is'nt cheap but decent knives are really a lifetime partner. i do'nt think many blades made from other than carbon alloys with the exception of 3v can be a dependable performer for all situations. of course few fit into under 200 dollars. if you desire a ferrari expect to pay for it but remember quality is long remembered after expense is forgotten.---dennis
