I really want a strider... but...

BBW,

It's called experience, send me a knife that has been taken apart after factory assembly and I'll probably be able to tell. Now someone working at Strider who has assembled THOUSANDS of strider knives could probably tell without removing a screw.

Hello,

I had a chance to use a strider for a few days at work. It was nice but not for me. This knife had lock rock from the owner using it for heavy yard work, cutting saplings and other plants he said. It was fairly smooth opening and closing. It didnt cut paper as well as I would like and the handle wasnt very comfortable to me. I made a pry bar out of some old titanium scrap I had and Ill probably be getting a ZT0200 instead of the strider. Thanks for all the info guys.

Chris

What does "light prying" mean anyway? Opening up wooden boxes with it.....(if so how bif and well nailed down are they?) breaking open doors? (small doors? big doors?)

I'd expect my knife to stand up to some functions other than cutting but some I wouldn't. Best just use common sense I'd say and if you're expecting to have to pry open big things....carry a prybar. That's what they're for. Would your knife (any knife really with a thick blade) stand up to it in a pinch? probably.......there's a good reason "be prepared" is the boy scout motto.

Im not a hurt fan boy... different strokes for different folks. I love striders and spydercos, and dont expect everyone to like what i like. But when the majority of the negative posts are wrong, i corrected them. some people just cant stand being corrected.

Uh oh! Fan boy rage alert. The fan boys are having a hissy fit because somebody said something bad about their favorite knife company. You need to get your shit straight. Their warranty is not no questions asked. And it's a knife company, not your wife no need to fight for their honor. I had poor experiences with Strider as have many others. They're reluctant to mention it because of fan boys like yourselves that will jump down their throat. Seen it a million times. I'm not going to waste anymore time talking to clowns.

I have no problem with Strider fans, just the butthurt fan boys that rage if you don't praise Strider.

And that company is owned by crooks that made up stories to "steal valor" so they can sell their tacticool gear. Something to think about on this day meant to honor true veterans.

Wow, I'm reluctant to jump in here simply because of all the hate and discontent from both sides of the aisle whenever these threads pop up; but I'm going to on behalf of those who are neither fanboy nor hater. A camp which I think I'm in, as far as Strider knives are concerned.

I like the knives and own four at present. Of the four two are pretty darn good as far as f&f. The other two not so much.

I had a very recent experience with their customer service. The following is merely an honest, unbiased report of what transpired. In my opinion, it wasn't stellar. It took almost two months to get the knife back with zero communication on their part excepting the initial one line email stating send it in with the $15 check. I later sent them an email simply requesting verification that they had the knife, but I got no answer.

The knife was sent in for a refurb because it was pretty old and worn cosmetically. It had blade play, and the blade was also off centered favoring the g-10 side. I'd always read on these threads how great the knives look when they come back, describing them as looking "brand new". But truth be told my knife came back looking basically identical to what I sent in.

The blade came back still slightly off centered but this time toward the lock side. However, the blade play is gone, so they did a good job on that.

My opinion is that they do make nice knives but they should invest more time and effort into their customer service. I have another older SNG that needs some attention. I think I'll try sending that one in and see how that goes. When it comes back I'll report on that experience as well. Good, bad or indifferent.

I'm not a fan boy; I just want people to not be haters and state the truth. If you want to be hater then I can hate too. Strider is not even my favorite knife. Yes I would prefer to be able to call then and ask things but hey, that's the way they prefer to do it. Could you send the knife and come back not as good (cosmetically) as you would have liked? yes. What I gather from Strider is that they don't care about cosmetics so if this is something you obsess with its better to look in other direction. I have 2 Striders and both blades are off center. Does it bother me? in the beginning but not anymore; I just use them and they work just fine.
I wanted them to be sharper and I re-profiled them to 20 degrees; I didn't want the strong and dull tip, I did the same.
Anyone can make a mistake; when sending the knife include a note about what you need to be done and include your PH# JIC
As far as the story about crooks and such; I don't even know it and to tell you the truth I'm not interested. Don't know the Strider guys, it just happens that I like their knives.
If I want to admire a knife, I grab the Hinderer ;-)

Wow, talk about rage?

You still haven't explained what happened to you so as far as I'm concerned you have no honor. You are putting a company down without explaining your reasons. In all honesty you come across as a hurt child. No offense intended.

I had a bad experience with one of the best in the business so I know anyone can make mistakes.

How many have noticed the difference in the washers in their Strider knife? My SNG actually appeared to have one washer with a larger diameter than the other. I could see this with the knife assembled. Wonder what happens if you change the two around...

'You are a hurt child with no honor, no offense'

post of the year right there, competes with BBW's epic meltdown and constant whining

Just to be clear, I did include a note with all of my info and expectations. I am not "obsessed" with cosmetics. Again, I have read multiple posts where people have stated that if you send the knife in it will come back looking brand new. I'm stating honestly that was not my experience. I only report what occurred. Not spinning it one way or the other. It is now trouble free functionally, excepting the slightly off centered blade which I consider a cosmetic issue and doesn't really concern me much. I just expected a knife in this price range to come back from the maker centered. To me those are little things that should be addressed. In reality it won't affect the knife's performance though.

Nothing was directed toward you BP Green. When someone goes to every thread that regards Strider and says how horrible they are but will not say why you gotta say WTF.

There are plenty of soldiers carrying Strider gear and they have more reason than anyone to be upset about the company history. They still carry the knives.

. . . . Agreed. Former army vet myself. I look at my knives as tools not statements.

Lol carry on... Yeah I couldn't even sleep thinking about this hahaha

Did it ever occur to you that you might be hurting your cause rather than helping? You might want to try presenting your opinions in a calm rational manner rather than lashing out at anyone that disagrees with you. People might tend to listen a little better then. Just sayin'. . .

I'm sorry that you didn't have a good experience and I'm sorry if I came across as a fan boy but I'm passionate. The reality is that some people (like you) have real concerns and other just tell lies. This is about people stating that if you take your Strider appart it voids the warranty and its BS. The rest is just semantics.
The barrier with forums is that since its writen you can't tell in what "tone" things were said; again, sorry if I came to strong but I don't like people (many have never even seen a Srider) to state what is not true and That goes for any brand that I have experience with.
Strider has many things that I don't like and many that I like. I can choose to buy them or not
Cheers
