I love the Perrin PPT! Ok, I'm a righty so that helps but the size of this knife is the perfect EDC size for me. Somewhere around the Sage 2 size range. The blade profile is going to be great for EDC. I really like the thumb ramp and jimping. It works well when the knife is deployed but doesn't affect your hand when reaching into your pocket for something. I like a knife size where my hand falls right into place on the handle and my thumb follows the opening radius without having to choke up on the grip when I open the knife. The fit and finish is impeccable as with the GB's. I'm told it may be the same Taiwanese mfg that makes both. The mfg gets to put their name on the tang now above Taiwan. An honor, I assume, that was earned by the quality they demonstrate.

Here are a bunch of pictures, done quickly, all freehand, some along side one of my XHP Manix 2's and one of my Sage 2's. I apologize for all the lint on my trusty leather chair background. I failed to dust it off and any white fuzz you see on the knife scale is just lint too. Personally, the Perrin PPT has found a place in my top 5 Spyderco's. I'm happy I have a second one coming with the next batch Tom Berry receives. Like the Gayle Bradley, the Perrin PPT has that "you got way more that you paid for it" feel to it when you handle and operate it. The action is perfect and fully one handed both ways.

Nice review! I have one on the way as well. I like the looks alot, but I'm really getting attached to my Gayle bradley and that M4 goodness.

I can't wait to give it some pocket time this coming week. It has to be one tough folder considering the lockbar and scales are all beadblasted steel and the lockbar is pretty darn thick too. We would be calling this a strong knife if the lockbar were the same thickness and made of titanium but it's steel. I get a warm feeling about the stop pin being embedded into steel rather than titanium or G10. That thick lockbar being steel while the knife is not too heavy for comfortable EDC whatsoever is satisfying. With the early lockup and steel on steel there should be years of pretty hard use life in this knife. I assume the lockbar is softer than the blade tang so the wear ratio there should be just right.

So far this is at the top of my list for EDC's from Spyderco along with a few other Spyderco knives. Good job to Sal, Fred and Spyderco on this knife and for what you can have one for it's just the icing on the cake.

That is a nice review Reeek!! I had not looked at this knive's picture closely before as I found the blade odd looking at first. But close examination reveals it to be an intrigueing knife. I really like the metal backspacer and low ride clip. Both get big thumbs up from me. The Fit and Finish looks to be superb!! The size looks to be really good for me. It just made the list of knives to have in my EDC.

Thanks for the wakeup call!

I would love to see a picture of the knife in hand. Especially showing one "choking up" and another "choking down". Sorry for the request but the nearest dealer is almost two hours away and only open on weekends.
Thanks
TC

I wonder what the odds of getting a foliage green G10 with CPM-M4 sprint with this design would be. That would be the ultimate coolness, in addition to this one.

That would be a nice knife that I wouldn't be able to pass on ;)

I'll post some tomorrow

Excellent review and awesome pics. You take great pictures. Is the lock sticky ? My Sage 2 doesn't have sticky lock, but my Ti millie does.

The lock is not sticky but again, the lockbar is steel so it shouldn't much anyway. It's common for a Ti lockbar to feel sticky or rough against the steel tang until you use it enough for the lockbar to set properly.

Congrats! and thanks for the pix.
The PPT folder is a freaking beauty! I'm drooling all over the screen right now.
So you don't find that the new handle/lock design is a little protruding? Doesn't it bother your hand when using it for rather heavier duty cutting??

I haven't used it for heavy cutting yet but the lockbar does not feel like it protrudes at all and it feels safe and secure. As for pushing down hard on the top of the handle, it's smooth and flush so that shouldn't have an effect like proud liners might.

It feels so solid, too. Like the Gayle Bradley, there is something about the weight and feel that screams quality.

Indeed and the solid sounding CLACK when it opens and locks up adds to that impression.
