Case lockbacks don't seem to get a lot of attention, so let me give them a little. I have 3 at the moment and I like 'em all quite a bit.

First off is the long tall number, a Copperlock in goldenrod jigged bone. There is a "Case customer service" story behind this knife, as told here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1088595-Great-Customer-Service-Experience-with-Case And a small mod I did to it, as described here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1090031-A-Quick-Copperlock-Mod Although a little thin to be completely comfortable in the hand, this is nevertheless a very cool knife. In particular I like the goldenrod bone and the thin tapered blade north of the long pull---a very adept slicer.

Next up is a recent find, a 21051 LSSP, 1983 vintage, if I'm reading this guide correctly: http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com...eference-guide/case-knife-age-identification/ I really like this one---locks up tight, came with even and well done factory grinds, and the composition handles are very nice---I don't know if they're delrin, micarta, G10, or something else, but they are smooth, comfortable and very classy looking, IMO. The blade has sort of a saber grind but with a very smooth and gradual transition into a hollow grind, and the blade has an attractive satin finish. It was very easy to put a razor edge on this one.

Finally, the little one of the group, a 71225 L, from 2007, in orange curly zebrawood. This one was purchased from esteemed member Tomahawk6442. There are lots of these small Case lockbacks floating around but the zebrawood makes this one special---I wish my poor photography did the colors and grain justice.

So, anybody else have a Case lockback you like?

Andrew, I agree with you, Case makes some nice Lockbacks. I have a couple; a black synthetic handled ALCAN from 1980 (very similar to yours) - it's a nice size but I've never carried it. I also have a Case Hammerhead - cleaned a couple of deer with this one last fall season - it compares well to my Buck 110. OH

Nice ones, gents.

OH, can you tell me more about your ALCAN? I am guessing "ALCAN" means it is an advertising knife? It does look like the twin to mine, but is that a full flat grind? Is there a pattern number on the tang?

Thanks,

Andrew

I just picked up this mini copperlock in jigged bone and im loving it.

It's my first case knife and my first traditional folder in the 50 dollar range and it has not disappointed, I don't think I'll be able to going back to buying Rough Riders and Imperial Schrades anytime soon.

Those black handled bareheads are very nice indeed, CASE would do well to offer them again.

I've had very good experience with their lockbacks, no faults and very well turned out. The Mini Copperlock LB is particularly good size with a big enough blade for the tasks I demand. Quite the bargain actually. I have a full size Copperlock but find it too large, it also has very strange Rattlesnake bone etched scales, probably from about 2000 as far as I can recall.

Thanks, Will

Andrew, my notes from 10-11-2012 on this knife, "per info found on AAPK these knives were introduced by Case in 1976 in order to have a small lockback to compete with other brands. The series included the smooth handled 21051 LSSP (which we both have), the jigged Pakkawood 61051 LSSP, and a Monel or Aluminum handled version - the M1051LSSP. All had been discontinued by the mid 1990's. ALCAS was the contract manufacturer". Note that I mispelled ALCAS when I wrote the first post. OH

Ps Will, your knife has some of the best looking of the modern Case "dark red" handles I have seen - very rich looking.

Old Hunter Appreciate your remarks! It is Pocket Worn Old Red from 1998 and frankly, it seems about the last time CASE did produce a Dark Red. It's high time after 18 years....

I like my Case Mako; it's a good lock back, but I prefer Bucks! This is my 15 Years service State of Tenn. knife that I modified...

Let us not forget the Case-Bose Lockback Whittlers!

Gary Top stuff there, that Wharncliffe/Ebony is particularly eye-catching:cool::thumbup::thumbup:

Nice knive guys. 👍🏻 I have always wanted a Mako, just never got around to ordering one. So many knives so little money. 😉

Thanks, gents, for all the pics and comments. I had a Mini-Copperlock and sold it, but these posts make me want to pick up another. And, Gary, I wish a C/B Lockback Whittler were in my budget!
