And exactly why do you think you don't like (can't stand) damascus blades?
I just hate the look of damascus blades, ruins the knife for me.
Maverick is a term, usually referring to cattle, for an animal that does not carry a brand.[1] In the period of the United States open range, such animals were relatively common. Many cows would give birth in wild or semi-wild conditions, not be located in an annual round up, and their ensuing calf could thus grow to maturity without having been captured and branded for ownership. The term derived from Samuel Maverick, who, among his other claims to fame, was notorious for not branding his cattle.
I like the 701 better as well . Some guys around here have all the 700 series of the Aurum etched blades . DM
I just returned from a Colorado Elk Camp last night and read this Post this morning. A Buck Sales Rep. in Florida (Gabrick) had 100 of the 704 Mavericks made from the Custom Shop with Damascus, thus the G001, etc. numbering system. The numbers are stamped on the reverse sise of the tang. I can't remember the number Flatlander of this one you were bidding on - seemed like a low one. Had I not been hunting, I would have also bid on it. The 704 was introduced in the1983 catalog and discontinued in the 1999 catalog.
I don't know how many of these were made or if its a proto but it's most interesting.

Well, shame on me. I hadn't read all of the Posts. You gave to Larry O. the number. One more tid bit - the backs and bolster ends of these 100 -704's are polished rather than satin. This was discontinued in 1985, when the switch was made to a satin finish.
