So my uncle is a cop and my dad is retired military. My uncle has his guns, 2of them. A Sig Sauer 9mm and a Glock 40cal. We shot for 12 yards out. What A blast that was. Just so much fun. I've never shoten before and it was harder than I thought. Was prety good with the sig. I had decent groupings and a few bulseyes. I see why people like to hunt now. And shooting ranges are the shizz. Just wanted to share that wig all my outdoor gun lovin brethren. Merry Christams all!!!

Cool!

So how old are you?

I first shot a gun when I was 8 about 31 years ago. Still shooting today and I agree, it's a blast! ;)

Shooting is very fun. I got nervous my first time, but after firing my first shot I knew it was going to be one of my favorite things to do. Watch that trigger saftey;).

Ha I'm 21 so I started just a bit late lol But it is a blast. This is definitely something I will try to do again asap.

Awesome!!! Next step is to learn from my past experience...I wasted a lot of years shooting and never fully mastering the neccessary markmanship and tactics needed and as a result developed many terrible habits.

At one time I owned a Gun Store. I was doing custom work for a LEO agency. They invited me out to the range to one of their classes to trouble shoot one of their weapon systems. While I was out there they let me step up with the rest of the class. Within the first 12 minutes I knew I was out of my league and what I thought I knew about firearms I soon realized I didn't know squat about shooting, fighting, and staying alive. I was humbled.

After that I became a full time junkie attending shooting and defensive small arms schools all over the USA! That was over 30 years ago and I'm still going to these schools!

Best advice I can give you is to seek out a highly reputable professional school or instructor and get some training now that you're hooked and BEFORE you start developing ineffective habits that take a lifetime to correct.

The Garcias, located in Fl, are top notch but more biased toward competition shooters. Tiger McGee I believe is in your area somewhere and is top notch in the defensive realm. These are folks who do this for a living and that is who you ought to seek out. Trust me on this one...if you spend the time and money on competent professional training you'll thank me for it for years to come...and you'll be able to out perform Uncle Cop and Retired Dad!!! Besides it is addictive!

Have fun and LIVE the Four Firearm Safety Rules!

Good for you! I grew up hunting from a very young age. My older brother and father taught me to be safe. However, until I was your age, I didn't have the opportunity to shoot pistols or anything other than hunting firearms. When I turned 21, I bought my first pistol and joined a local range/club. That's when the fun began. I now shoot tactical pistol and carbine competitions, as well as sporting clays and multi gun matches. If it's available in your area, something to think about. Enjoy and be safe.

Shooting is a very fun sport. Just a few suggestions. For your first gun, I would buy a .22 auto. A couple of reasons. It is much easier to learn and master the basics with a gun that has minimal recoil. Also, it is much cheaper to shoot than a 9mm or a 40. The basics are just sight alignment and trigger control. I tought a girlfriend how to shoot and I didn't let her handle a bigger gun until she had probably 2 to 3 thousand rounds of .22 auto under her belt. She learned "the basics" shooting the .22 and they easily carried over to bigger guns. She progressed through the centerfire handguns over the next year and ended up a 3 time world champion shooting a .45 Long Colt. She and Jerry Miculek are the only two people who have won Second Chance shooting a revolver. Youtube Jerry Miculek to see him in action. Have fun with your new found sport.

Congrats!!!Wait till you start spending loads of dough on that hobby, trust me,it'll happen.

Welcome to the world of yet another expensive addiction:D

I started late as well(19), and now I'm 4 deep and the list of guns I want is endless:D

Congrats! I was pretty young when I first started...my first rifle was a Winchester 30-30 my father got me when I turned 15 for deer hunting. I didn't do a whole lot of pistol shooting growing up...my father never owned one. I did buy my first when I turned 21 (a Sig P228)...which I still have and enjoy shooting; they're great shooters!

My son started shooting at three and a half:o He loves to go shooing (now, almost 11) and has already made dibs on several in my gun collection. I recently purchased a little Heritage Rough Rider, .22LR/22WRM single action revolver (bird head's grip and 3.5" barrel). When we go squirrel hunting, this will be the little pistol he gets to strap on:D

I really need to find a closer range now that we moved!!!!! Keep it up and start saving your pennies. I really recommend you find something you like and get it sooner rather than later...

Thats awesome man! I have quite a few guns, and love em. They sure are fun, whether your hunting, or just killing paper.

Congrats...yep you are hooked.

I started real young about 32 years ago. My Dad was a cop/NRA pistol/Hunter safety Instructor so it was natural for me to be practically born with a gun in my hand.:) (started my son off early too).

And if you thought this knife stuff was an expensive hobby...;)

Man I k ow how expensive it is. That's why for now Ima have to hold off on the sport. In college full time living in the dorms so that is a bummer. But when I graduate I will be getting in to it for sure. Gosh I'm glad I'm broke(thAt will be the only time I ever say that!!)

First shot a 22 on a property, then a shotgun, and moved up to AK's in Vietnam and pistols and revolvers on a range at schoolies. :D

Enjoy what freedom you've got, Yanks!
