I slipped yesterday...

...and carried two knives for the first time. I didn't need both knives. Some how it seemed to make sense. Typically, I would have traded out and carried only one knife. So how did I come to think I needed a backup?

In my defense, yesterday I cleaned and sharpened a recently acquired Old Timer 180 OT. It was in sad shape. So, it just made sense to carry the thing along side the GEC #72 with a wharncliffe blade already in my pocket!

I am NOT saying that carrying two knifes is "unusual"...well at least after yesterday it no longer seems unusual. I see now that it is perfectly normal to carry a backup. :)

I hope you have a great day!

So how did I come to think I needed a backup?
For me it came about as the result of deciding to move my ever burgeoning cell phone out of my LFP and into a belt holster. Up until that point, I carried my folder in the coin compartment of my wallet. But when I moved my cell phone out of my LFP, I opened up room for something else. The obvious choice was to throw a folder in my pocket, but not the one in my wallet because I had become accustomed to carrying one there. So that's how I came to carry two folders . . . well three actually if you count the blade on the Leatherman Micra I carry clipped to my RFP. ;)

I go between carrying one or two. I like to carry a traditional slipjoint but I also like to carry an alox SAK for the other tools. I was carrying just a Pioneer which makes a great single knife carry, but when I want to carry a traditional slipjoint I'll throw my Cadet in the pocket with my keys and then keep my traditional slipjoint in the other pocket alone. I like the Cadet for the bottle opener, not only to open a bottle but also for any light prying task that may come up.

Today it's my Ken Erickson shadow EDC and my black Cadet.

I slipped once, and never went back. I started carrying a peanut in my watch pocket back in July and every since then I have carried two slippies. I hate to admit it but there are times when a peanut is just not the right tool for the job. So I usually supplement it with either a SAK or something that is close in size.

I myself am currently carrying 3. Threw my new Kershaw Crown in rotation so its now resting in my coin pocket of my jeans along with a no brand, made in usa two blade slipper and i have my Kabar 1152 in my LFP. Ok.... so maybe 4 including the Opinel 10 in my carhartt jacket

For me it's the Micra. The scissors in that tool make it what it is. (Borrowed pic.)

I work in an office and I swear I could get by with just my Micra and a pair of ordinary office shears. Only reason I carry folders is, well, because I like folders. :)

;-))) I had to tighten my belt a notch.

Best regards

Robin, Those Barlows look pretty heavy. Apparently, it's ok for me to carry more than two knives...I can take a Barlow off your hands so you can lighten your load. :)

These days it's 2-3 for myself. Was carrying a Svord for a few weeks but decided to switch it out for a Big Chris custom in O1 which now sits on my belt, this made my LFP too empty and had to be filled with the BF congress jack once again. At least until that Northwoods conductor rears it's head again.

I'm going to show this thread to my wife, who looks askance at what I've been carrying lately:)

I typically carry a SAK every day as my "main knife"; moved to an Electrician from a Tinker recently.
I also carry a Vic Classic on a little chain attached to a coin purse; gotta have scissors!
I've also been carrying a Peanut every day for the past 6 weeks because I really like it.
And I carry a "knife of the week" as a fashion accessory, and because every knife I have deserves some pocket time.
If I'm wearing jeans, I'll throw a Vic Minichamp in the watch pocket, since Nature abhors a vacuum.

Do I need to carry all of this cutlery? Of course not; I functioned just fine for 45 years without carrying a knife. But once my interest in knives was rekindled early this year, and I started accumulating and carrying knives, I think I'm functioning more effectively and more happily.

My carry usually involves a GEC sunfish, grandad Barlow, two blade 73, and small barlow.

Honestly, though, I work in a office and spend significant time in a suit. The knives stay on the desk much of the time because the jail and court don't allow them.

But, when off work, I carry a a handful too. I will reduce when I'm also carrying a gun and spare ammo and flashkight. Often I will settle for two in one pocket and modern folder in the back pocket.

Where do you carry each? Why those four? How do you choose which blade to use? It looks like you have two spears, a sheepfoot and a clip, plus at least two pen blades.

Btw--nice knives!😀👍. You have a whole lotta history in your pockets!

Today :D

Regards

Robin

I usually always have my peanut or a small yeller toothpick in my watch pocket, with usually a full size trapper or a med stockman in my rfp. Just seems to work great that way

Hi Robb
I usually carry them all front right. I try to put tight pouches on all but the sheepsfoot Barlow. The Barlow is always in my pocket
the others are new so need fondling often. :D

Best regards
