I slipped yesterday...

Where do you carry each? Why those four? How do you choose which blade to use? It looks like you have two spears, a sheepfoot and a clip, plus at least two pen blades.

Btw--nice knives!. You have a whole lotta history in your pockets!

Hi Robb
I usually carry them all front right. I try to put tight pouches on all but the sheepsfoot Barlow. The Barlow is always in my pocket
the others are new so need fondling often. :D

Best regards

Robin

All-in-one pocket, I never would have guessed that. I think all that weight would make me list to the right. Great collection, thanks for the photo!

Second from the left. wow. <droool>

Hi sendcake.
Not 100% sure what it is, marked Pauls bros NY and pre 1900 but likely German made it seems. It could be American made
but I found an exact match to the bone jigging on a Krusius from Germany.

Best regards

Robin

Being and old Sailor, I'm used to listing ;-)))

I usually carry 4 knives - two slippies, one modern, and a micra on my keychain.

I try to pick slippies that complement each other. Either providing functionality the others do not (cap lifter? screwdriver?) or make a nice contrast in material or pattern (e.g. a peanut to complement a trapper, or single blade wharnie).

One goes in a slip case in my left front, with keys (phone and modern are in right front). The other two are in slip cases in each of my side sportcoat pockets.

I normally carry at least 3, and soon my count will be going up to 4-5 as soon as my package gets here.

Dont feel bad about carrying 2, I have 2 slippies, a big modern folder, a fixed blade and a leatherman today and thats kind of light for me. It really is ridiculous, but im havin fun:D I got too many knives that I love so multiples is the only way I can get to use them all.

I generally carry two, maybe three. I went with one knife for two days between Tuesday and Wednesday and it just didn't feel right. I went with a cheap excalibur stockman and my SAK Cmper which I am carrying now. When I first started carrying two knives? Hard to say I think it just came a bout when I had a multi-tool, the blades on them are all right but not good enough. I gave it to a friend for five bucks (bad luck to just give a knife apparently) since then it just felt weird not to have two. Then I took up whittling so second knife could give me three or four blade shapes. It just sort of developed from there.

Today's carry, for me:

RFP:
Schrade 8OT stockman
Case 10375 SS stockman

LFP:
Case 2137 SS Sod Buster Jr.
Leatherman Micra

Not that I feel the need for all that 'backup', but I just can't resist having the options available during the day. Good way to 'test' several out for different uses; I stopped feeling self-conscious about it long ago (it's wierd, I know). :D

I always carry multiple knives. I carry a Buck folder in each front pocket, a pair of small Kabar (1232s or shorties) fixed blades on each side and a BK11 in my left rear pocket.

You never know which side you need a knife on, and you never know when a fixed blade will be needed. Does someone NEED multiple knives? No. Not until you do, and if you then NEED one on the other side and you don't have one, OH, &*(%.

My attitude goes back in 1965 to when my grandfather's LEFT shirt sleeve got caught up in a combine drive chain. He pulled his fixed blade (Kabar 1232 - right side carry), cut the sleeve off and said to me "That's why you carry a fixed blade." (Actually, he called it a "straight knife". :D )

As an 11 y.o. always asking questions, I asked him "What if it had been your other arm?" He thought a minute, turned off the tractor and we went to town where he bought a second fixed blade. When ever working around machinery (the farm, his grain elevator or his butcher shop/locker plant) he carried 2 fixed blades. There is no way he could have gotten a traditional out of a pocket, opened and cut the sleeve before loosing his arm or life. A couple of weeks later, he gave me the Western L46-5 he bought that day (he had to wait for more 1232s to come in), saying, "If you're smart enough to ask that question, you're old enough to carry a fixed blade."

So I carry 2 fixed blades out of family tradition and a preference to be prepared in the event I really, really NEED a second knife at time "X".

That is a great story! Thanks for sharing it! Now I'm going to start carrying a "straight knife!"

Is there anyone in this forum who carries only one knife? Would you tell us why only one?

And that's a bad thing?

I'm a single-blade lock-back addict. I always have a peanut-sized Buck or Kershaw in my watch pocket and a bigger Buck in my right front.

Wife says just because she buys me cargo shorts doesn't mean I need a knife for every pocket. I say yes, I do, so I don't have to search all the pockets for a knife.

Good stories everyone! You all have convincing arguments for a 2+ carry. I may need to add a 3rd just so I can get more use out of my collection. :D

Jamestap, that's a brilliant idea regarding cargo pants.

I only carry one knife, plus a SAK Classic on my keys, and I'm fine with that...but I would never try to convince you do the same :p plenty of people here who keep their pockets loaded :D
As for everything, it's all a matter of trying something and deciding if it's worth it or not. :)

I always carry two knives (and a multi-tool & lighter). Of the knives, it's almost always a high quality clip knife and a folder - which is basically my "loaner" knife. (Knives are changed-up on any given day.)

I always carry a traditional, but when I add a second knife it is usually an SAK or a modern OHO. I hardly ever carry more than one traditional, because I prefer multi-blades and just don't need a second one very often.

I've said before that I only carry one pocket knife, it's always a small traditional slipjoint. I have on occasion carried more than one, but it's usually for a specific purpose and it is a rare event. I keep a multitool in my kitbag at work, which stays in the vehicle - but I don't carry it.

Is there anyone in this forum who carries only one knife? Would you tell us why only one?

Generally, for me it's unnecessary. I appreciate why some might feel like they NEED to carry more than one, and if that's what you enjoy then that's fine. I can't be bothered with the clutter of carrying stuff that I don't use.

Some people will get hung up on the 'what if X happens?' factors... life is too short for that.

Oh and there is a significant jump between the bloke who tends to have a useful knife in his pocket and that bloke who wears knives.

;)

Today :D

Robin

drooling! wow!
i try very hard to carry just one...i guess thats one reason why i have so much, the right knife for the right situation...when i go outside theres most of the time a additional victorinox rambler or rally on my keychain, for bottle opener, nail file, small screwdriver, toothpick and tweezers (and scissors on the rambler) as my traditionals that i use to carry dont have this features and i carried saks for a long time and would miss them.

Nice assortment Robin. ;)
For my needs, I carry a Case Tiny Trapper or the GEC Bull Nose along with my larger modern folder. Over the last month, I have not used a large knife at all. I've gotten by really well with only the Bull Nose. In years past, I made it a point to carry a smaller pocket knife at all times. Sometimes there is no need for more; especially when you work with folks that tend to be uncomfortable around knives to begin with.
