I sold a Knife for a gun, does this make me a bad person?

I just sold a comic book to buy a gun! I often swap one hobby item for another. Keeps it fresh. I'm planning on selling a few more comics for another Busse or two. I figure I can play with the knives a bit more than the comics.

No, it makes you a reasonable person.

If you have a Taurus revolver and a Colt Python, you can reasonably expect the latter to shoot better than the former. In other words, you get more for your money.

But that's not true of knives. Given similar blade steels and grinds, one knife will not necessarily cut any better than the other. That's why I don't understand folks who buy Sebenzas. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for 'em, and if they like their little Sebbies, well, more power to 'em. But their knives won't cut any better than other knives that are far less expensive.

I'm drawn to beautiful knives of great quality, but to me Sebbies aren't very attractive and I can't abide the bead blasting of titanium and the stone washed blades. If CRs were to polish the titanium and the blades, with the blades polished to a high mirror gloss, it would be much nicer; however, that's another matter. Bottom line is that they don't cut any better.

Now a Sage 2 isn't all that expensive, so you should be able to get another when you save up your pennies. Meanwhile, enjoy your gun. I'm sure you've got a few knives tucked away, and if you've seen one Spyderco, you've seen 'em all. Me, I'm getting ready to buy a Sog Agency with a polished black TiNi blade. Now that's a beautiful knife, and the finish reminds me of the high blue finish on a Colt Python. Can't get that on a Sebbie!

You can't have too many .22s, and while I don't have much use for bolt-action .22LRs, I love the caliber. If you haven't seen the new break down Ruger 10/22, you might want to sell another knife! It's the best .22 rifle on the market in my view. Anyway, best of luck!

I sold a knife to have some custom work done on my Springfield 1911

Money well spent.

It will go both way for you, trust me.

I'm selling my Kimber warrior to fund a glock 19 and another custom blade. Figured I've always wanted a 1911 I could run to hell and back that will fire every-time I pull the trigger, so when I do ever get another 1911 It will be a Wilson Combat or a Night Hawk Custom. Who knows maybe I'll sell a few knives to fund it.

It goes both ways for me :D

Yep...the circulation is half the fun. I sold a boat load of knives (Rosellis I'd never use, LOTS of Gerbers, all my serrated Spydercos, some of which were mildly collectable, etc.) on a popular auction site. It was fun, I got a boat load of cash and guess what, bought better knives (ESEEs, a whole new stable of plain edge Spydercos etc). Sold one or two guns to fund another. Some people accumulate...some people circulate. I find that as the circulation progresses, one settles into what one really wants to keep.

I've got a BIG N-Frame 627 8-shot .357 magnum revolver. Paid a fortune for it new. Love it...would never in a million years carry it unless I was fly-fishing in Alaska or Northern Idaho or somewhere where I'd need to worry about bears (and I don't fly fish...any place). Best double action trigger. Love shooting it. Would sell it in a minute if I got a good offer.

Not sure I own a knife I wouldn't sell if tendered a good offer. I'd have to make money on one of my favorites (which I'd just replace at a profit).

Some people accumulate...some people circulate. I am somewhere in the middle really.

There is something about a .357 magnum that brings out a smile when it goes bang. I love my 686.

Nothing wrong with that at all. I'm in the process of thinning my knife collection, partly to pay some bills, but also to fund the various hoops that need to be jumped through here to be allowed to own and use firearms. Already have a friend's Savage Edge .223 lined up as my first buy as soon as I'm licensed.

Thanks for all the posts! 1 of you guys did hit the nail on the head. Their is no wrath like a women when you tell her you can't take her out to dinner because your broke and then walk outside to shoot your new gun!

I'm right there with you. I've been a gun fanatic my whole life, but the knife bug has consumed me over the last year! I'm ready to sell my SIG P226 for a wicked edge and another knife!

How about we trade a wicked edge for your 226? Joking aside, I could have built a bad ass AR if I didn't spend so much on knives. I'll get around to it someday.

Knife collecting is just a hobby. There's no shame in your interests evolving. In fact, it's generally a good thing for a person to grow over time. So, unless you sold off your possessions to fund a heroin addiction or something else that is harmful to you or to others, it's all good.

In the past I sold my knife collection to fund a set of scuba gear, then started over a few years later. Just sold a knife and bought an (*spoiler alert* NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART*)

airgun with part of the money. I feel so ashamed
