I spent too much on knives this week...help me justify my decision

As far as bank accounts go, the wife and I have a "his", "hers" and "ours" thing going on. As long as all the bills are paid thats all that matters. However, right now we are in saving mode so the money I spend on knives or anything that isn't normal like a hair cut and oil changes, etc. gets a little more scrutiny. I just got a package from Amazon yesterday and my wife said, is that another knife? It was a tube of nano lube. His, hers and ours works well for me and my wife. Mainly because the "ours" account doesn't get touched without both of us agreeing on it.

My wife has access to my bankaccount. She can withdraw all my money without me knowing it. And so can i, on her bankaccount. She frequently uses my bankcards as well and knows my PIN number.
I really can't hide any purchase for her, or i would need to take small amounts of cash from my bank account and store them in a secret place.
This has worked fine for the last 22 years.

Since those knives have high demand and near-non-existent depreciation, just tell yourself that you can sell them with little to no loss any time.

I wish that were a true statement, and NOPYO means well, but it doesn't always work out so well. I still have quite a few knives that won't sell without a pretty big loss.
I just paid off a big knife loan yesterday, that I've been paying hyper-interest on. It was ALL my own darned fault. But I saw all those great knives, and just had to have them, and borrowing is just so easy.. I would really suggest paying cash when you can.
A new marriage can be tough...and bills make it much tougher. The reco for His, Her's, and OURS bank accounts is a good one.
Please be careful, and good luck with your coming marriage.

Thanks for the kind advice with regards to marraige. I can honestly say it is something I look forward to, shared bank account or not. And in regards to my recent knife purchasing depreciating in value, I'm not too worried because these are some knives I will be hanging onto, even if someone offered me much more than I paid for them. Can't say that about many of my knives but the AD-10 will be THE knife for me. Till death do us part.

If you were 100yrs old and on your death bed, nothing would matter. You'd look back and say, "Why didn't I buy the knives I wanted instead of the knives I settled with."
You did the right thing.:) I believe the saying goes "That you only live once."

Marriage is also a marriage of bank accounts and debts. We each get play money every week and spend it as we wish, the rest goes towards OUR savings and bills.

That setup works for us but others have a different setup that works just as well. The key is finding what works for the both if you.

I bought 4 Sebenzas and 1 Mnandi in the last 2 weeks, lol....

Look at the bright side, you have a whole year for yourself. The bank account is up to you although I would agree with most here and tell you to have your own and on another note:

Congratulations!!!! my fellow knife brother. God Bless! :)

You honestly don't have the right to feel bad for yourself, simply because you have no responsibilities...yet. So cheer up and just enjoy the knives and know that there are thousands here, who are in the same boat as you...yes myself included.

I had college days where I ate Ramen for a week to fund my habit!!! (I'm not kidding!)

You need them for the coming zombie invasion. How else can you protect your new bride? A gun? That's for amateurs. Profession zombie killers all use knives.

So glad that I'm not the only one who buys knives weekly...

Resale/trade is my reason for feeling better, and that if I don't do this now. My bank account would hate me more after I get wife and kids.

I spent too much on knives this week - YOLO.
Lmao.

But seriously, you need justification.....
NEW KNIVES!!!! :D

There, it's been justified.

I ordered a new TGLB from Busse, a Demko AD-10, and an BM Adamas. I won't recieve the first two for some time and my bank account hates me right now. I didn't need any of these, but I WANTED them. How do you guys make yourself feel better when you do this(?)

Well, the Busse and the Demko are items that you essentially have to purchase when the opportunity arises.
I'm in the same boat, except I already have the Adamas and I hope Demko doesn't call me for at least another 6 months. :p

As for making myself feel better, I try real hard not to buy any knives that I am not feeling **truly** compelled to purchase; I just keep telling myself that I already have enough.

I am always spending too much on knives, but as long as the other bills get paid it is all good! As for the bank accounts, separate is the way to go! It prevents soooo many arguments. She has her money and I have mine, and we split the bills.
I need to stay off of the exchange section here though......

Make sure the father in law or brother in law have same interests. If not take them down the path. It will make the years beyond that first one much more enjoyable. Everybody loves knives right?

I'm already on it! No brothers, but her father is a State Trooper. I love my XM-18's and I talked him into buying himself one a while back since he can order for half what I paid for mine. Needless to say, he was hooked!

I couldn't agree more. You can't take the money with you, or the knives either, and that's why I use all of mine. And isn't it true that whoever dies with the most toys wins? ;)
