I spoke of this before.

You can find the diamond brand strike any where here where I live, but they suck, nowhere as good as the old Ohio bluetip strike any where matches you could get when I was a kid

The Diamond brand matches are what I used to buy years ago. They always worked well for me. Was not able to find them for the longest time, till today. Picked up a 3 pack from the local Grocery store in their seasonal/camping section. Going to try them out tomorrow. Hope they work as well as I remember.

A quick question for montanablade, and wildmanh - Are you sure those Diamond brand wood matches are "Strike Anywhere"? The only ones I've found lately are Diamond, but must be lit using the box striker.

wildmike, same question. If they are in fact "Strike Anywhere," could you post pictures of the box?

Thanks.

Yeah, me too. On the current diamonds, I pick out the ones with the most 'white' on the tip and keep those for match safes, etc. I just use the others on the box strikers for general purposes.

Wow! I had no idea. Now I guess I'll have to go match shopping to see what's available. I just found my old match-safe the other day. I didn't imagine that finding the ammo to load it up would be a problem!

They seem to light ok off rough surfaces. I covered the top of my match safes with 100 grit sandpaper, rendering the whole "strike anywhere" part kind of moot.

You know I was looking for some matches just the other day. Thought it was wierd that I couldn't find any.

I buy Denatured Alcohol by the quart from several outlets as well.

.

Home Depot and many other hardware stores sell alcohol by the gallon jug in the painting section.

1US Gallon
3.78 Litres
99.9% pure
"Methyl Hydrate"

It's the old style name for
Methyl Alcohol
Methanol
Wood Alcohol

I just love it for cleaning windows.

Thanks! Probably cheaper, too.

Ace is where they are here, all the big stores and super markets are strike on box matches.

Seems like they sell out a lot on the strike anywhere matches. Of course I live in hill billy hell of meth making. they just buy to light the wood stove and the house blows up, go figure.
