I spy with my big eye . . .

There is also a pretty strong statement in the legal carry of knives stating that 5.5" is a maximum legal length. My point is that if you get an officer who is not fluent with all aspects of knife / sword / or whatever laws, you may be spending some time arrested until that officer and his supervisors can get it cleared up. Maybe you will not, but likely you will.

"(6) "Illegal knife" means a:
(A) knife with a blade over five and one-half inches;
(B) hand instrument designed to cut or stab another by
being thrown;
(C) dagger, including but not limited to a dirk, stiletto,
and poniard;
(D) sword; or
(E) spear."

It is obvious that you trust the information you have found. I have simply found too much information that leads me to believe carrying a sword in the passenger seat is a bad idea from a "I do not want to be arrested" point of view. I would rather err of the side of caution then spend jail time justly or un-justly.

Most folks also don't carry a loaded patrol rifle in a bag propped against their front seat either.

Common sense says that folks will keep the blade secured behind a seat or in the trunk. Since my backseat is plastic and often carries some pleasant folks, can't keep it there. Could carry it in the trunk but it's full of patrol junk, radios, spare tire, stop stick, LTL shotgun and other tools of the trade. Carrying a sword on patrol is neither common nor expected, neither prohibited nor approved. But I thought the photo fun and took it. Frankly, I minimize what I have to carry in the front due to UFOs in a collision hitting me (had it happen).

So, enjoy the thread for what it is. :)

May you have peace, joy and may the blue lights be in front of you, not behind.

moblues,

I have enjoyed this thread a great deal and think it's neat you can carry your Waki with you on patrol.
Apologies if I came across as a killjoy.
Thank you for your service and "Be safe out there".

iamtoast,

Three suggestions...
1) If you're going to carry a weapon (any weapon) with you in your vehicle, carry a copy of the Penal Code, Chapter 46, Weapons, in your glove box.
2) If you ever find yourself in a situation with an officer who is not fluent with all aspects of knife / sword / or whatever laws, you can request to speak with his/her supervisor.
3) Speak with a lawyer who is well versed in this area and your concerns/fears should be put to rest.

Finally, I hope you didn't take any of my comments as "smart-assed" or otherwise. Just wanted to make sure you and/or others reading this know you are 'good to go' in your vehicles in the great state of Texas.

Happy Holidays to all,

I do not take you comments as anything other than informational. For me though, this is too much of a hassle since I do not care for the idea in the first place. I may decide to put a hatchet/axe in the car in case of an accident. If I wanted a weapon in the car with me I would rather just get a Texas CCW permit. Finances have bee a bit tight to do that lately and as a former school teacher even if I did have the CCW I would not be able to carry at work or even on the premises so the idea is not as appealing as it might otherwise be.

Not a crime around here so long as it's not carried on your person in the general course of a day.

Funny you mention that. Reminds me of a story of when I had to back one of our city bred young'uns trying to excise a struck and dying raccoon with a shovel on the side of a street - repeatedly. Or another of a certain deputy who tried to drown a dying deer (so he thought) in a road ditch as a loaded school bus drove by . . . or when said young'un again decided to dispatch an injured raccoon with 11 (sigh, yes indeed) rounds of .40 S&W, without telling dispatch first . . . :cool:

Patrol bag is a hatch! Good eye.

Ehh, brass and nuttiness come into play here. No policy prohibiting it so . . . :D

Too funny. I'm afraid to ask what county this happenend in. I'm in Clark but like to run around the hills in Skamania and Cowlitz when I can.

Ah. I get up that way every now and then. I get to head that way again three times over the next couple of months. Don't really know the area very well but I can find my way to where I need to go.
