I Started my first ever project with a knife last weekend, and the problem is I can't stop reading about knife making and the info on this site is unbelievable (never find that in the library), problem is after seeing all the other things that are done with a crown, I'm at a standstill trying to figure out how to finish mine??

I hate asking questions and always try to figure things out for myself (because questions just make other people work) but I would like just a simple direction in which to finish out this crown before I ruin it, sorry for the bother, Steve.

Reading lots of differant things, I did see a post with a coin, I may go that direction just seems that it needs a little sumthin back there.

I seen a knife years ago that had a stag handle like yours and it had a boars tooth on the end. It sounds weird I know but it looked cool and was nicely done. What about another piece of antler a point or something? It looks great as is but I can see what you mean. Thanks for sharing. John

Now that sounds unique and I may do something like that in the future.

I am learning from all this reading that i'm doing everything completely azzz backwards. But in my defense I am left handed

I agree it looks good as is, but if you really felt you needed something on the end, a period coin or a simple brass cap shapped to fit the horn and lightly domed would look good too, but thats just my oppinion and you know what they say about oppinions.

Good looking handle.
I think the contrast in color is too much, maybe dye it a darker color to blend .

Rock I find finishing off the antler crown the hardest part of the whole antler. You do have many choices , polishish it up and im sure will look great the way you have it carved. You could cap the end with a brass cap a old dime or something. Or you could carve out the antler slightly more and send it out for scrimshaw. I just seen a knife with scrimshaw and its to say the least stunning.

I'll have to look up Scrimshaw definition, but I think on this one I will do the coin deal, being from South Dakota the Buffalo works I guess, Next Time I will start with the steel THEN do the Handle...life is a learning process and with everything I get into (wife says your not starting another hobby are you?) detail at all stages means a great end product, next one will be from scratch no kit.
