I steel Cobalt’s Mistress

I sent you a couple, I found the Dickoron (more common name in US) for $80 and there were some cheaper smooth steels out there. The main difference is the Dickoron model is hard chromed so it is going to be darned smooth and resist corrosion and rust. Just do your steeling with a clean dry blade and that will be of little consequence. My old steel has one heck of a patina on it and it probably isn't as smooth as it once was. Maybe I can take it to the electro plater in town and have it dipped, if I want to ruin the nostalgia I have associated with it.

Thanks PG I got it

I may have my GF get me one of those polish jobs for St. Valentines Day.

vicki has one made of glass but i don't know where she got it. i'll find out and post a link.

.

    I think that maybe I have seen ones like it in a few movies.

Oh!!! The glass one right! Hold on while I find some detailed pictures of it is use.....I can also post a video if requested.. It must of took a hour to clean up that mess.

Destruction test also on the way.. ouch!

Be careful not to remove too much material on the knife with that steel, it is basically a round file.

+1 on that.

All a steel is meant to do is realign the edge, NOT remove metal, just using the weight of the knife.

This will keep a sharp knife sharp longer before going to the stones.

The butcher steels are used on knives where time and output is more valuable than the knife itself, to where the knives are pretty much considered disposable.

The best I have found for the BM sized blades is the 14" half smooth/half grooved steel from HandAmerican. The grooves are so fine that I have to hold it up to a light to tell the grooved side from the smooth side. The sheath is made from HA's strop leather, so you can do a quick strop also. Good stuff!

Or, you can just get some DICK Polish and have a go with that. LOL
