I still always grab a RAT...

I own a fair amount of high quality fixed blades - I truly admire my Busses (infi is amazing stuff) and I love my Barkies (beautiful, sharp blades).

But, when it comes down to it, 99% of the time I still grab my RC3mil or RC4 - I just think these puppies are all around outdoor perfection :)

Assuming I'm not alone here... :D

Don't post here too often, but, just wanted to let Jeff and Mike know. Thanks guys - you really know how to do it & I cant wait to see whats coming down the pipe...

Hey Trailwolf.....I am in complete agreement with you, I own several knives, but always have at least one RAT on hand.
I dont own a Busse, but truly admire them. ( I've got a Tank Buster on my wish list). :D
Also, thanks for taking the time to post in the RAT forum, its a great place to meet fellow knife lovers.

My HEST is my new best friend. Before that it was an AG Russell Sting and a Kabar Warthog folder for EDC, and they both still work fine... but this little hest I can carry in my front pocket or strap horizontally to my back and it just loves riding which ever way I want it to. And it slices like a surgical scalpel-or better.

I am the same way. Although I don't own a Busse (will some day), I do have several Bark Rivers. They look so nice, I have a tendency to not use them the way they are intended to be used. Now my RATs on the other hand get used daily with the Izula getting the most use. I use them so much that 4 other people from work have inquired about them and ended up buying their own.

Not that I own a Busse, Swamp, or Scrapy.....But I figure if I did own them I would probably grab the RAT. From what I have seen and read the RAT price to performance ratio cannot be beat. Something that is around 2-4x the price I cannot fathom using as frugal as I am.

Granted I don't own any of the above yet. I figure I will be grabbing my future RAT before I grab my fixed Griptlian.

It all depends on what im doing .... i keep a rat3 around me on my desk.... but i also have a dumpster mutt scrap yard, and a mud puppy , and a chax custom knife... floating around me... also have a bark river bravo 2 i keep in my safe for when i go camping ....

i also have a sod with an izula companion.... but my rat3 sees a lotta use... the rc5 not so much... its a heavy sucker so i dont take it with me much i just leave it in my truck with a shovel and other tools....

i use all the above blades depending on what i feel like.... but i definatly put more use into my rat... the main reason is the rat is a better slicer then most my busse kin offerings that and i have been using the rat3 in the kitchen ... i have had her a few months so its a user...

I normaly go for the best tool for the job..... and in my BOB i carry an izula and s5 and maybe add the option of a df.... for a large chopper

there are many great knives out there... rat isnt the end all be all ... but you definatly get your moneys worth. and i keep picking up rats here and there....

My RC-4 is always in my Max. Falcon II front pocket that I use for work (laptop case + PSK) and day pack. Its compact/flat profile make it the perfect stow knife. I carry my Izula daily in my pocket. Thus, I pretty much have two RATs with my on a daily basis.

I like the RC-4 so much, I ordered two more of them. I will give one of them to my daughter in the Air Force. The RC-4 is just big enough to be useful for baton work and small enough for easy carry. It's a high quality knife at a fair price. And my new HEST is destined to be my hiking knife.

I own alot of knives, but when I head for the timber or go fishing I usually grab my RC4 or RC3.My Izula goes to work with me everyday. They are great users and just feel good in the hand.

RAT makes a great knife: well designed, made with quality materials, and extremely well manufactured. Hard to go wrong with a RAT and I'd take a RAT over most other blades, excepting some of my custom maker knives.

for the money, best knives you can buy. their are cheaper knives (like cold steel) but most of them are $hit. I've beaten the hell out of my rat and it shows no sign of mercy, just keeps asking for more:cool:. I'm glad they have such a good warranty but don't see it breakin' 'less I hit it broard side with a sledge..:D I give these knives..well the ones I've used a:thumbup:

I like several different brands high quality knives, and RATs are right up there. The prices are good, too.

Well, I've lusted after the Busse/Bussekin knives the second I first laid eyes on them. However, once I saw my first RAT knife, I knew I found the balance between price and performance and durability I was looking for. I'll still own some Busse knives, as well as many others I'm sure, but I'm eagerly anticipating arrival of my RC-6 any day now. I'm already planning which one I'll order next, along with the RAT pack knife I'll hopefully be able to order!

I've heard this from more and more people, only affirms my belief that I made a good decision ordering a RAT for my first "real" knife. I own a bunch of CRKT's, Kershaws, and a Benchmade, they're fine little knives for the money. But I always have that nagging feeling that they wouldn't stand up to real-world abuse beyond my EDC needs over any substancial period of time.

Most all of my other fixed blades have been traded off. That includes Busse, Swamprat and the like. I won't say a bad word about them, just I prefer my RAT's.

I've heard from a few of the Busse crowd that they buy RAT knives so they don't have to feel bad abusing their high dollar blades.

In the same light, I just recently was gifted a Gerber fixed blade by Drew1095hc for the same reason, so I don't have to feel bad taking my RAT's out on the kayaks with me.

Personally, I'd hate to see this thread turn into another is "Busse worth it" one, that one ran away on W&SS and no need to duplicate it here. This thread is a celebration of RatCutlery blades - great blades at a user price. Maybe we can keep it that way!!

Enjoy seeing that I am not alone!

Disclaimer on:

Just reread my OP and want to make it plain as day that I'm not in any way trying to bash Busse or BRKT (or start a thread that does such) - I love mine, invested a lot of $ in them, they are incredible tools & pieces of fine craftsmanship and I would never sell them...

Disclaimer off :D

It just so happens that my RCs see the brunt of my usage.

Right on KGD. I've had some coffee and am a bit more awake. Previous post editted accordingly.
