I STILL can't sharpen...(burr problem)

garageboy knows how to sharpen... he forgot to mention that the opinel he's got has a one inch, or 1.5 inch blade, no lock and slightly recurved edge... that knife was probably never meant to get as sharp as it is already and he wants it even sharper...

U could be pressing too hard when stropping. Also try to keep the angle a bit less than of the bevel.

Sharpness is relative. To most knife nuts, it will come to a point where they know it's sharp, but never be sharp enough!!

Guess we will just have to live with what we are comfortable with.

Odd thing is, my MUCH thicker Browning fixed blade and my Frosts Mora was easier to get sharp

OK, i didn´t read all the answers, so if i simply repeat what was said, Sorry.

The Opinel has a ballistic grind. I once had the same problem and looked how the blade thickness develops.

So two ways: Thick angle (grinded V - like) poor cutter

Low angle = long to sharpen.

The mouse pad way is to go on Opinels.

I think so too....I had trouble getting my opinels shaving sharp on benchstones, until I switched to a mousepad and sand paper, then stropped it on CrO2 oxide loaded leather

My oppy#7 is as sharp as my straight razor... It doesn't take mousepads or supercalafragilistic paper... all it takes is some time, consistency and ultrafine stone...

No reallly, garageboy just has a lemon of a knife and should get a bigger oppy...
