I Still know how to hollow grind

Hi Guy's,
It has been around 4 years since I did any hollow grinding. A customer wanted a D2 knife with a hollow ground blade. So to be safe I made 2. After he decides I will be adding his initials to it along with my last name.
Pretty neat optical illusion on the second pic. Both knives are the same overall length.

Questions Welcomed

That IS a crazy perspective whammy happening in the second pic, David. Great looking knives. My preference leans toward the "pointier" one. You should have no problem finding a home for the second.

Really nice looking, I like the pointy one but the others handle wood. Both are great though. Wish I could hollow grind like that.

Hi Mgysgthath,
All the fitting is done by hand. I use a 2.5 power optivisor and strong lighting. The front bolster is dove tailed so when you grind the handle it comes out with a curve. The rear is done on a smaller contact wheel to match the wood. After the parts are closely ground to shape I rub them together and find out where they make contact first by looking for a shiny spot on the wood. By scraping a little wood away I slowly get a good fit.
After all the fitting, pinning and glueing is done than I grind the handle contours and finish sand.
Here are 2 other examples but no dove tailed bolsters.

The bottom one is not perfect but it was the prototype.
It takes practice and some good eye hand coordination.
I hope this helps.
Dave

I am very impressed by that.. I love the lines! Will have to try (and no doubt fail) that someday hehe. Thanks David.

Nice work, David. What finish did you take that D2 to? Looks like a mirror, if so I'd think you used CPM D2?
