I suppose an Intro is in order...

Hello everyone,

I've been into knives for several years now, mainly collecting/using Spyderco folders. I don't really have many fixed blades, but I plan on changing that soon. I've lurked in this forum for a few weeks now and I am really interested in ESEE. I plan on picking up one very soon, however I don't know which to get, I have some time to think about it and I will most likely sort out advice from you experts. I look forward to joining the "Rat Pack" and gaining more knowledge/advice from you all.

I guess this really wasn't an Intro:rolleyes:, I just wanted to officially say hello to everyone.

Thanks for your time,
Canis

Welcome to madness!

I would say a 3, Izula or H.E.S.T. would be in order. Well, not in order of purchase, but, you know. :D

Welcome Boss, the knife type depends upon your needs. I own the E.S.E.E. RC-6 RC-3, that combo works wonders for me.

Welcome. It's not what you start with but end with.....IT DOESN"T END.

Again welcome

if you don't have a "neck knife" yet, the Izula is a great gateway knife.
If you do, the ESEE-3 is a great slicer and not a bad size for EDC.
The ESEE-4 is a bit thicker than the 3, but I suspect that for me, it would be a more useful size than the first 2 if I didn't have something larger with me. (not likely - so I will likely never buy a -4 for myself)
The HEST is odd looking, but is developing quite the following - it's got the blade length and shape of the ESEE-3, but the spine thickness of the -4. it also has hollow scales and a prybar on the butt end.

any of these 4 is a good starting place if you don't already have something to fill that niche in your current carry rotation.

personally, I'm saving up for a Junglas -- I *need* a big chopper -- honest! :D
(at least until I break/lose/give away some of my current users)

Welcome:) Big Spyderco user here as well. You really need to try some of these fixed blades. Good luck with your decision(s)

welcome!
i agree that spyderco makes a great folding knife. they are my favorite for folders
and ESEE is my fav for fixed blades!

Welcome. As you can see the Izula is very popular. I hope to have one soon myself. It is for this reason I suggest you get one first, there's nothing like living vicariously! :)

Another one joins the dark side.........start small and work toward the bigger ones. You'll love the Izula and you'll find out later that you're going to love the other ESEE models too

I don't think it really matters where you start...just pick one in the size range you think you'll be comfortable with. They make great knives. I have 2 HESTs and an Izula...and the RC4S should be here Friday...I had to have at least one with serrations :).

Welcome. From one Spyderco fan to another, get an Izula first.
+...3 I think? This is actually a natural affinity: extremely functional, high-value and ergonomic knives that aren't out to win a beauty or "cool" contest, offered by personable companies with a lot of integrity.

My advice is to start with an Izula or 3. Like the Spydies you are familiar with, these cut much bigger than they are. IMHO, the best first Spyderco is the Dragonfly or Delica - it helps you "get" the spirit of the design while remaining approachable and carryable. This is similar.

+4 I guess. I have lots of Spydercos, then bought an Izula, and just this week got an RC4.

I also look forward to joining this HORDE! As for the knifes, I have an affinity for the larger ones; RC-5 SERE,RC-6,RTAKII,RAT-7, and soon to be Junglas. But regardless of size, you absolutely CANNOT go wrong with anything in the ESEE lineup. Anything is a good choice!

Welcome. Just scored a Hest myself. Ive lurked here often, plan to spend more time here!

I am with Blabebuster here, you cannot go wrong with ESEE what ever you pick.

Welcome to the addiction
