In my search for Yeller bone, I found this beauty and had to have it. Its a split back whittler 3.5 inch with "Bomb"? shield? Its had non standard Case XX 1994 stamp. Is this a Queen? In any event its just great!

This is a case classic. It was made by bluegrass cutlery. They are made better than the ones that were made by case in 1994.You got a nice knife there.I would say they was about 250 made or so.

Didnt Blue Grass farm out their knives to Queen?

Another vote for Queen mfg. and double bomb shield.

Bone looks a little more golden than pure yella-- I like it!

Wait, so it's a Case Classic, made by Queen? That seems rather odd...
...although it certainly does look an awful lot like the Queen whittler Andi posted recently... :/

That is strange. Case Classic made by Queen for Bluegrass Cutlery, who filled an order for Case.

Makes my head spin.

Not usually a fan of whittlers, but I like this one.

Dave.....

Yes that was made by Queen Cutlery as were 65% or more of the Case Classic knives which came from Queen patterns during this period of Jim Parker...who was doing his best to keep things rolling at Case.

Jim Parker was primarily responsible for the birth of Case Classics. Add into the discussion, Case, Blue Grass Cutlery, subcontracting, Queen ...and now you know why it seems "odd".

Interesting stuff! What was the purpose of Case Classics? Case was still making a ton of knives weren they?

As others have said, your Case Classic was not made by Case. It was made by Queen under a license agreement between Jim Parker and Case. Blue Grass Cutlery was the broker.

Did you get the Case Classic box, and paper that they came with?

I had several of the 1994 Case Classics, but sold them a few years ago. They are very well made knives.

That question does make me realize something. I tended to avoid buying Case knives (of their own manufacture) produced during much of the same time frame, in the '90s. They did have some good ones (Copperlocks were introduced in '97, and I immediately liked those), but I tended not to like the looks of the sort of 'squared off' oval of the shields, and I'd also noticed that their edge grinds didn't seem as good in that period. Makes me wonder if they could've done better to focus on their own core products, as opposed to farming out some work to other factories. I hadn't thought of this before, but it makes me wonder a bit...

I do have one of the Case Classic 5340 'Jumbo' stockman knives, in stag. It is a very attractive knife. Never really knew of Queen's involvement in making them, however.

Yes it came in the Blue and White box with the red velvet sleeve in it. I think the papers are there too.
