Review I tested 20 different hunting knives, and one reigned supreme.

Do you like having a gut hook on your hunting knife?

The Steep Country Hunter from Benchmade earned the crown. Many of the knives that I tested were 2 and 3 times more expensive than the Benchmade Steep Country Hunter. Some of the higher end knives included the Fallkniven H1, Fallkniven Jarl, Fallkniven Frej and the Bark River Gunny. I tested by processing 1 whitetailed deer from start to finish. So from field dressing all the way through deboning with each knife. I then inspected the blades for chipping, and tested on a sheet of paper. Only the Steep Country Hunter was able to cleanly slice through paper without any hitches. What hunting knives have performed the best for you guys?

I would have liked to see a list of the 20 blades you tested and what the pros and cons were and what led you to call this one "supreme." The few knives you listed wouldn't have been in my top 50 game processing blades so it's hard to relate to your comparison.

If this thread was called "why I love my new Benchmade" then it would be a decent random YouTube video, but I find it to be a bit lacking on a knife forum.

Two months ago I sharpened a co-worker's Winchester hunting knife with gut hook. It had relatively soft steel but I know how to sharpen just about anything.

He also asked me to sharpen an old Buck squire.

They already processed a buck and a doe . He claims he can do another one no problem.

In return he gave me 2 lb of ground venison. That's about all I can add to this thread.

If you're going to come to BFC for the sole purpose of shilling for your youtube channel (which is painfully obvious), you should at least have the decency to pay for a membership... and do way, way, better reviews.
I don't use the like button often, sir, but such truths deserve to be noted.

Virtuovice gets my vote.
Absolutely agree. He actually does stuff and you learn something. Very skilled guy in the outdoors, as well as an MD. And a genius at free hand sharpening. He makes great videos, ones worth watching. Never seen him pimping em anywhere though.

There is one well known YT’er on here who also doesn’t pimp his videos and takes criticism that comes his way very gracefully. Nick someone-or-other?

what are the other 15 knives you tested?
Fallkniven PHK, CRKT Hunt'N Fisch, Gerber Myth, Case XX Changer, Bark River Featherweight Hunter, Buck 110, Buck 119, Buck 398 Omni Hunter, Buck Ranger Skinner, Buck Zipper, Gerber Stong Arm, Boker Vollintegral, Boker Arbolito, Puma Big Bear, Bench made hidden Canyon, and there was another buck knife with a rosewood handle and gut hook. I can't think of the exact model off the top of my head, but I could provide a pic.

I watched plenty of Virtuovoice, but he sold me on that crummy Bark River A2 tool steel.
