I think an awsome Set up I just made. (pictures of course)

mag now makes AA minis already LED, and from teh reviews i have read, its well the worth the extra inch in length and the extra ten dollars. they are supposed to be even better than teh converted lights, and be brighter and last longer.

just based on some reviews i read......no personal experience with that matter.

I like it! All I carry fits in an Altoids tin, but I don;t like carrying it in my pocket. I'd like to make a little leather belt pouch for it but your rig might be another something I might try!

I just picked up one of those retrofit kits for my MagLight. It's great. I found mine at Target, but here's the company's sight: http://www.niteize.com/

I've had good luck with mine so far.

However, I hope that my experience with the NiteIze conversion unit isn't typical, because after about a month or so it would not turn off, no matter how hard I twisted it.

That's not a niteize problem, assuming the LED is seated fully. The LED only replaces the bulb. The on/off aspect of the minimag isn't alterered. Your problem is with the front cap, the part that you twist on and off, or that base piece in which the bulb (LED or regular) mounts. I've had a few problems with this on regular mini's also.

They aren't completely reliable any more (china crap I'm sure), but mini's are still a nice value and fairly sturdy.

A concealed rambo knife like that would get you a fair share of bad attention iffin' Johnny Law saw it. You wouldn't get a second glance for having a clip on folder in your pocket, and you'd actually be able to draw the thing if you needed it. You wouldn't get a second glance in most towns wearing a hunting knife or locking knife on your belt.

Personally, I don't bring knives to gunfights. If I'm concealing something that large, it will be a .40 caliber. Actually, I can conceal two .40s easier than that thing.

I know there might be a reason you chose what you did. Good work though and have fun improvising.

I believe it's a setup for the woods and not the city. I would agree that it's a crazy setup to go get some milk with.

Hey guys.

Well, I got to thinking tonight, it was nice having the ka-bar the way I did, up-side down under my right arm, But I wanted a little more from it. I didnt like having my psk (personal survival kit) around my waist, and I didnt want another satchel over my shoulder, So I came up with this.

Yeah, its awesome. Anytime you can make something for pennies that would otherwise cost dollars and is comfortable and works, is awesome. Pat yourself on the back for a job well done.

I could see your first set-up as a good idea for working towards a fully adjustable leather harness. Tandy leather has all kinds of buckles and such to make a decent harness. Your design has great potential.

Very true, this was just a start of it more less, I wanted to see how things fit, how much they weighed and what not. I think it would great to get some type of leather rig, or even some type of nylon strapping, looks like a new project.

Ohh, and no, this is not for getting milk, no reason for this in the city, one when I'm on my own land, or so far out that anyone who found out I had it, would probably have something more, and bigger than me  :D

Thats true, though even in canada, a pocket knife to an officer can be a concealed weapon. I dont even like carrying a pocket knife, all of what I have, as in a leatherman wave, buck110 are on my belt. That is why this kit is only worn in the wilderness, Not even to a city park, or local place of that sort. Only for on my land, or wayyyy out.

Looks like you're ready to stomp on the bear turds now Fonly. :D I've been busy and not checking things out here lately. What KA-BAR model did you get? I recently gave my Manix to my son. It's a good knife but a little over hyped in my view.

yeah, this is a Ka-bar 8" tanto, I love that knife. Done lots of testing on it, it chops ok on dry, so I know it'll do good on 2"-4" spruce, or soft wood. I've reground the edge, from factory its 20*/20*, 40 degres overall, so I regound it at about 15, it cuts very well now.

Can you post a few pics of it unsheathed? Maybe one one your hand for visual reference please. I'm interested in several diff. KA-BAR models right now. Thanks....Sorry about the thread hijack/tangent.

Here it is in hand.

Then by my BK7 for camparison.

Like, I tried this setup with the Bk7, as in a fack, its a much better built knife for the purpose, but its heavier, and the sheath is a little more awkward, IE longer, and fatter. The ka-bar is a nice slim fit, and of course is lighter.

Hey siguy,

I have a factory Mini Mag LED and it works great. Far better than regular Mini Mags or even one with the Nite Ize conversions (which work well). A couple of weeks ago, I noticed the light, while still nice and bright, was becoming intermittent (a problem I've had in varying degrees with all Mini Mags over the years), it wouldn't work, I'd hit it and it would. The problem with this one is that I don't know how to disassemble it.

Anyway, while at a local Sportsmen's Show a couple of weeks ago, I was bitching about it to a lovely young lady at one of the retailer booths. She said I needed new batteries. Dumb woman, what does she know? I work on electrical equipment. If you hit it, and it comes on, it has to be a bad connection. To make a long story as short as possible at this point, she was right. I removed the batteries and tested them with a battery tester and they were definitely in need of replacement. Apparently some (maybe all) LED lights have voltage regulator circuits or some such and that accounted for the responses to being hit.

BTW, Fonly, sorry about the hijack, I just thought it might be information somebody could use (rather than throwing the piece of junk in the garbage :( )

I got mine at CTC for $23 (?) on sale. If you wait, I bet it goes on sale again. That's the way with Canadian Tire. If you want something, and you're not in a hurry, sooner or later, CTC will put it on sale.

I believe it's a setup for the woods and not the city.

Then I guess I don't understand why it would be concealed. In all the places I've lived, that knife is illegal only if you conceal it. Hard to get my head around the crazy laws. This should be a big warning for those of us still in the free parts of North America.

Its because I dont like carrying it on my belt, just dont like the weight, I like a 4"-5" fixed blade and a multitool, So, I used some other space avalible to me.
