I think I am missing something

Hello, guys,

I just wanted to post a new thread on Busse forum asking their opinion what Busse knife would suit my needs for a good slicer when I realised I was doing something wrong:

We take concept of three knives - multitool, slicer and heavy work knife. And it is recommended not to pursue two qualities in one knive because it wil be good in one quality, but not the other - if you have a good slicer, then do not use it as a heavy work knife because it will work badly and vice versa.

Busse is tough, so I would presume it should be heavy work knife, but this means it shouldn't be slicer. Perhaps, when I was asking on this forum what nice folding slicer you know that is also tough, I think I was making mistake as well - I should have a slicer, but not care much how good it is for heavy duty work.

But does anybody carry some heavy work knife with himself while in cities or towns? I agree that usually we do not need them (therefore they should be compact and light), even when you go for camping you do not always need heavy work knife, but sometimes needs for a tough knife come very unexpectedly even while you are in a city.

Regards,

This is one of my EDC. I have this one or another similar size one on me at all times. I wouldn't consider it a large fixed blade but it is a heavy one in that the blade thickness is 3/16" and it has a convex grind. I use it for every day things. I've even cut apples, slice deer bologna and cheese with it. It would be considered a thick grind for slicing but it does quite well. The blade is 2 1/2" and 6 1/2" overall. Even though some consider thinner grinds like a flat or high hollow to be better slicers, I've had goods results with the thicker convex.

How about a Leaner Meaner? Not too big, thin and still tough. I too have been looking for a good all around knife. I'll be using it alot around work, I'm a carpenter, and I'm tired of beating the crap out of my SERE 2000 as it's starting to have some serious problems since I've used it as a prybar etc. Still works but need a new tool anyway

You might want to check for a Swamp Rat Bog Dog. It's tough enough for most, and it's a good slicer.

Cheers,

David
