I think I need an Arête...

So I have a Sneaky Pete and an Asp. Love the Sneaky for outdoors carry but it's a little big to be running around town with, so that's when my Asp comes into play and I love it.
My favorite Fiddleback and knife for that matter is my Bushcrafter but it's just a tad too big to be running around town with. I think I need an Arête...

Or the forthcoming mini-Bushcrafter... Or a patch... Or an EDK... Or...

Yeah, we've all got experience at this game. I think the gist is this: if you can afford it and come up with an excuse, then you NEED it. 😄

Happy hunting. 👍👍

I'm confused
They are all 4" blade and 4.5" handle
But don't get me wrong... You do need an arête

I have an EDK and a Hiking Buddy, had a patch too. I just feel under knifed when that's all I have on me.
Mini-Bushcafter? Seriously? I'll take one.

I prefer the slimmer profile of the Asp vs. the Sneaky, when in town and I'm wondering if the Arête would fill that role for me.

You definitely do need an Arete. It's a great knife. I have one that is 1/8 O1 with a full convex. It is very "slicey", but it can also prep kindling. Today I debarked a 2" oak branch, batoned through it, and then batoned through several straight-grained split logs for kindling.

It is great for quartering apples and breaking down boxes for recycling.

My typical in-town EDC is a Benchmade Barrage (3.75"); it's a good sized knife. The Arete is far more knife than the Barrage. Depending on how you carry it, it may still be rather intimidating to the average pedestrian.

I do love an Arête! BEAUTIFUL profile! I am currently using one for my predominate woods knife, but... if you want to carry and are looking for smaller, the KE Bushie is fabulous! It's like an overgrown guardless Hiking Buddy! USAMadeBlade has a white one right now!

I've been looking at the KE Bushie too. It seems like both those models are a little hard to come by when you want one. That must mean people like them and don't want to let them go.

I am TOTALLY playing. And aren't you were the one who bought my Arête?

I speak good English. ;)

As others have said, its a pretty amazing profile. Using a BC and KEB as reference, the Arete is pretty much square in the middle. Like many of Andy's multi-purpose profiles, I think you will find well suited for almost any task and comfortable to use at that.

Yep, sounds like exactly what I'm looking for.
In burl with a tapered tang would be nice.

Arete is a great blade. Super comfortable handle and a nice spearpoint profile. KEB has been mentioned and it's a winner as well. It has a rounded butt handle similar to the Arete but with more of a beak. It's blade is also a little closer to a drop point than spear. Kephart is another good one if you're looking for something not quite as tall as the Bushcrafter.

A comparison I did a while back of the three: Comparison of 4" Bushcrafting Spearpoints

Thanks for the pics and nice review.
I didn't realize how close in size those three are.

Or the forthcoming mini-Bushcrafter...

I sure hope this idea took root. As well as the mini-muk. Aretes have been scarce lately and I was glad to be able to pick one up. I love the HB, but little more belly would be perfect!!!! Can't wait to see something like this materialize. It would be my edc.

Everything about a Mini Bushcrafter just seems right.
