i have a lot more fixed blades mainly ka bars and bucks a few others makes too but I found a few folders I like over time I like buck 110/112 i really like my cold steel ti lite 4s and a counterpoint 2 and 1 sak soilder and the rest are fixed no folder will beat a fixed imo
one of my mate who is in to knives but preffairs folders and multi tools try to get me to like them more but iv got the ones I like

in the woods he still asked could he borrow my ka bar black ironey he was trying to to prove you only need a folder I won't name the make but it failed because he pushed it to far Imo trying to split kindling for a fire

Your fixed blade collection looks super, and great quality. I am also fond of fixed blades, but I don't own any blade longer than 5" as my bush-craft needs are awfully simple.

This baton process doesn't have to be as serious as it sounds.
You CAN reasonably baton with a folding knife...as long as you UNLOCK the blade first...
Obviously, the stress is then ONLY on the blade, and the lock is swinging free and clear from any stress.

A pocket sized fixed blade sounds about what you need. I have a handmade from @duckchildress that was a gift from a good friend here, and it takes only slightly more pocket space than the usual larger folders in my rotation. One of my all time favorites. 6" overall with a 2.75" blade. Realistically it can handle 90% of what I might have to do in a given day and only that low because I often cut soundproof insulation that is 3.5" thick and I like a 4" blade to make a clean cut because OCD?

Oh here is one for a steal direct from the maker. Orange scales :D

I don't disagree with you but there are better tools for the job I told him to get a hatchet if he did want to carry a fixed blade or wreck his folders but it would be nice to know a folder could take it if it's all you had on you in an ermergance I will try what you said just to see I still perfair a fixed blade over a folder

I feel the same way as the OP. As a lifelong hunter I have come to appreciate a great fixed blade knife. I remember as a 7 year old kid wanting to wear a buck fixed blade on my belt just like my best friend, my grandfather did. I felt like the big chief with a fixed blade on my belt. While my taste in a knife has changed drastically over the years, I still prefer a fixed blade, most of the time. Lately I’m either wearing a Winkler Jaeger or CPK field knife. I do carry pocket knives daily though and I enjoy the craftsmanship of the Hinderer xm-18 or the CRK Sebenza 21. But if forced to only carry 1 knife at a time it would undoubtedly be a fixed blade.

I love carrying a fixed blade. Just got an ESSE knives 3 series in CPM-S35VN. Carrying a Leatherman OHT with it.

I am buying more fixed blades these days, but this forum is focused mainly on folders.
I think because
  • Folders are easy to carry
  • Folders have mechanisms that are fun to play and tinker with
  • Local laws restrict carry of fixed blades
  • Folders are marketed as collector items with varying steel, scales, colors, etc.
Functionally, I much prefer a fixed blade. The job gets done with a minimum of fuss.

Slowly moving off folders also. From seven down to three; working on fixed collection now.
Collection is a misnomer for I don't consider myself a collector. If I don't use or carry, it's usually gone pretty quick. It's a tool, not a jewel. Though jewels are nice too!
Still looking for that perfect EDC fixed...
