My dads buddy(mine too) owns a scrap yard..We trade for materials all the time..Got this 55" saw blade from him today..its .182 thick on the edge and close to .220 in the center..Did a little hillbilly testing on it..Hardened it in parks 50 from about 1475..Got screaming hard, broke like glass in the vise with a nice fine light grey grain..I think this one is something like 1080+nickle..I have another one in the shop thats something like 8670M because it air/work hardens to a pretty good degree..Im about positive it has Moly in it..Anyway I think it will make a few knives..He has another just like this one but rusted a bit(this one has been in storage for a long time)..I think Ill go get it too..

Nice. I got one and liked it so I just hung it on the wall :) It was an old one and a bit rusty. Looks good hanging in the shop.

If there is the right steel in these blades they can give you many very good knives of carbon steel. Frank

I'm about to go scrounging the mill yards for big saw bands; I've been doing a little pattern welding with some chunks of 10" wide x .070"ish bands that work really nice, now I want more. Good score on that!

I got a smaller one I hung on the wall also, but that one is so big I would hate to hang it up . Use er up my friend.

i have about 5 that are about 3 ft across(found them stashed at the family farm), and thats all i make knives out of (mainly because i cant afford to buy materials).

holy wow, that's huge!
Will there be saw-hawks? that would be very cool.

somewhere around here there's a micrometer large enough to measure the exact radius... If only it had the right anvil..
