I think it's time : Another "who the heck are ya post.

Howdy ya'll...was that too cliche??? Anyhow, I am Bobby Morgan from the lil ol town of Jasper, Texas. If you have heard of it, I didn't do it. I am a happily married 34 year old man with two knot-headed kids. I am into shooting, reloading, hunting, fishing, and of course knives! I have made 3 skinners, 1 fillet, 2 off the walls, and 4 Railroad spike knives. And no, the rr spikes don't keep a good edge as long as a descent knife. I have done all this since I made my propane forge and got my Grizzly in February of this year. I caught the bug and well.....
I have enjoyed and learned a great deal from the guys/gals around hear. Ya'll have a heck of a forum hear.
If I chime in on one of your posts....just remember I am just a hick from Jasper....

Hi there,
I'm Alexander Noot, 28 years old. Married to a lovely wife and I have this amazing little boy (just over a year old) that makes me laugh daily. In my spare time other than knifemaking I enjoy Freestyle Rollerblading (the halfpipe kind), reading and playing my guitar.

I've only been making knives for under a year now but I'm enjoying it very much. There's nothing like looking at a finished product and realising that you made the whole thing.

Hi my name is JR Hartman and i have been lurking hear about 2 years. My dad was a tool maker and a master wood carver and i wish i would have watched him more.
I am a welder by trade and i love to make folding knives.

my name is kevin adams, i am a small arms instructor/security forces member for the us air force, basically i teach folks to shoot, and fix guns for a living. I have loved knives since i was a kid growing up in southern colorado. I was always outdoors camping and hunting. I have a wife and 7 yr old daughter (who keeps reminding me the she doesn't have her knife yet) i attended the abs school a while back, and am trying to get my shop up and running, sometimes hard with the military thing. I truly enjoy this site, and while i don't comment alot i always learn much. Knifemakers are truly among some of the most generous souls, i am continually amazed at the free exchange of help and information. I am very proud to be among some of the finest folks i've ever met.

Hello everyone,
My name is Joshua Dabney, I'm 33 years old with a lovely wife and son (13 months old) living in sunny Melbourne Florida. I was born and grew up in NE Ohio between Youngstown and Akron. Like so many others in this community I am the son of an avid outdoorsman and never played sports but spent my time shooting archery 3 to 4 days a week and and shooting on a junior DCM rife team. Hunting shooting and being outdoors was the passion of my youth. Of course the love of knives goes hand in hand with this lifestyle and I developed a talent for getting a keen edge without instruction just hours and hours of practice. I sharpened the knives of all our hunting buddies and was happy to do it and when they came home from Pennsylvania we'ld have a butchering party and me being the youngest of the group would happily volunteer to do the skinning (usually 7-10 whitetails). Those were some great times !
Not long after getting my driving license I started drifting away from these things preferring to party, chase girls, and generally have a damn good time doing it. No regrets but this behavior pretty much led me into a decade of running bars, 3 A.M. breakfasts and all the associated fun that goes with this kind of life. Not much time left for knives, guns, hunting, etc.
Having found a fantastic woman, settled down, and started a family i've come full circle and have revived my love of knives and guns and hope to instill the same values in my son that my Dad instilled in me.
I've basically done construction work of one kind or another since high school and have always enjoyed working with my hands and feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment in building things from raw materials. My last job was installing Hurricane Shutters and the housing crisis, the cost of gas and daycare, and having a son born 5 weeks premature put an abrupt end to that occupation. Working to pay daycare and gas stations with very little money beyond that just isn't my cup of tea so we made the decision that I would become a stay at home Dad. At first I kept busy remoddeling our entire kitchen, painting the interior, and replacing the lenoleum flooring with tile but now my son is more active and I've been getting a bit stir crazy looking for something to do.
I wanted to make my Dad a new hunting blade to replace his Puma Skinner as a christmas gift and here I am 6 months later going full tilt toward learning the craft of handmade knives. I feel I've got a great start with drill press, bandsaw, KMG, dremel, and various other hand tools. I've also got one of the most valueble tools a new maker can have... A new freind and mentor Dave Cole. Having someone so willing to share their knowledge freely and demonstrate techniques first hand is just priceless. I've got two heat treated blades I'm working on currently and I'm just enjoying the hell of it all.

This sure is a great thing to be a part of and I'm looking forward to getting to know some people and make some new friends here !:D

Hello everyone! My name is Todd Murphy. I am 35 years old. I live in Woods Cross, UT (suburb just north of Salt Lake City). I have been married for 14 years. I have four children. My oldest is a 12 year old girl and I have 8 year old triplets (2 boys and a girl). I haven’t made a knife yet, but the 1080 is in the mail! I have spent the last couple of months learning everything that I can about the process and putting the equipment and tools together. I just finished my workbench over the weekend, so I am getting close. Both of my Grandfathers used to make knives. They didn’t make them for a living, but when they needed a knife, they made one. I have always been amazed by that, and have wanted to try it out. My Paternal Grandfather died before I was born, and my Maternal Grandfather died 30 years ago, so I never had a chance to learn from either of them. I am going to be using a lot of my Paternal Grandfather’s tools though! I really decided to pursue this when my Dad showed me a knife that my Grandfather made for his brother to carry during WWII. I hope that I can make something that they would be proud of. Thanks to everyone who participates in this forum. I’ll try not to drive you all nuts with annoying questions along the way! Here’s a picture of my youngest boy last summer with the SAK I gave him when he joined the Cub Scouts.

Hello, I'm Jeff Springer and I live in Carlisle, Mass. I had joined BFC back in 2005 when I first started to make a few blades but was over whelmed by all the info...big mistake not to keep up with BFC. Yesterday on my way back from opening up our cottage in Maine, I noticed an anvil silhouette sign on the road side. It turned out to be the (NEB) New England Blacksmith's spring meeting. I stopped in and met a great bunch...including Justin Mercier who said I should get back on BFC.

Well to make a long story short, I joined NEB and started checking out Blades Forums today. I see a few familiar faces from a traditional bow hunting site that I'm a moderator on...Tradgang. We have a small hunting knife forum on there.

I'm looking forward to spending some time here. I have been forging blades for the past four years...more in the style of Keeslar & Winkler. I have attended an ABS symposium in Clyde, NC which really helped me put things together...plus I got to spend a couple hours one-on-one with Joe Keeslar learning his forging techniques. Now I need to decide at what level to join here. Hopefully I can hook up with some fellow New England makers. Thanks...Jeff

Good to see you posting here! Most of the time when I give someone the recommendation to get on the bladeforums and hit the maker's area I never see from them again. There's a great bunch of people all within easy driving distance of where you live and this is one of the best places to meet up and to find out about events in the area!

Hello all;

My name is Dick Stockford and I live in Bangor, Maine. I'm 64, recently retired from a career in Law Enforcement followed by a second career in graphic design. After a life-long interest in weapons, edged and otherwise, now I guess I'm ready to make my own... (Before I stumbled onto this forum, I had a nice little home woodworking shop where I turned out piles of sawdust and the occasional toy for my grandkids) so I've invested in a grinder and some steel and am working on my first two blades.

I am deaply appreciative and decidedly in awe of the skills, knowledge and sharing displayed by all of the forum regulars.

Indian George, Toecutter & Justin have made suggestions of hooking up with you. Thanks for the invite & I'll try to make it with a case of beer.

Karl, Always nice to come into a new house with familiar faces.

Justin, Thanks for the help at NEB & getting me back here...Jeff

Hi,
My name is Jason Burley Stout. I live in Martin TN. I am a full time tool and die maker, on the verge of being a full time knifemaker. In my day job I operate several CNC Mills, Lathes and Wire EDM's but nothing Is more satisfying than making one of my drop point hunters for a happy customer.I have a wife and 2 children girl 7years boy 3 years. And I am lucky that my wife is very supportive of this obsession.

Hi Jeff,

I'm in Hudson, MA. Still a beginner after about 6 years at it. Now that nasty old IG has set me on a new path by giving me a forge in his latest raffle.

Hope to see you around.

Ive changed my job and moved from Kyoto to Kamakura recently.
And began making knives again after a fifteen years of blank,
although nothing comparable to the wonderful works posted here.

My name is Mike Robertson, I'm a 61 yr old psychologist from central Indiana. I'm married to a wonderful woman and have two sons. I'm a nam vet and was a police officer for ten years. A certified knife and gun nut since 8, and made Indian ridge traders and Bob Egnath blades since 69. Had a heart attack 3yrs ago, died and reserrected via electric shock. On my bucket list has been making knives from the ground up. Now I forge and just got my heattreating oven yesterday. It's been the information and help from all the great guys here that has shaped my art. Thanks. always open to meeting other makers around Indiana.
