Based on all of the recent/current bitch sessions going on, I think it's time to create the "Church Lady" subforum where all of the whining, complaining, criticizing, Estrogen enhanced bitch sessions can all be grouped into one convenient location. This would leave the "Bladesmithing" forum to those who are here for legitmate questions and answers and a generally positive experience even if we can't spell or use bad grammer. Hell, most of us on here are rednecks or decended from one. Who gives a rats ass if spelling aint just so as long as we get our point across!

I say let the "noobs", rednecks and otherwise illiterate (those who can't read or spell) unite under the flag of brotherhood to overpower the tyrany and general snobbery that is being shamelessly displayed on this forum!

What say you oh moronic brothers? Now is the time to stand together agains these menopausal snobs!

:)

I believe you should be introduced to Whine & Cheese and this will be the typical Whine & Cheese reply... Ahem... "Who's being the menopausal snob? I say get the sand out of your mangina and while your at it, how about a clue too. if you see that the thread is not within your intrest range do what the rest of us do and ignore it. Besides the discussions that happen here are almost in one way or another smithing related, there's only so much one can say about stokin your fire, and swingin a hammer now quit being an asshat and get to makin knives! "

 :D

Jeez Jason, if it weren't for smilies I'd be cryin myself to sleep tonight. You do make a great point though. Maybe our moderator should be a little more proactive in moving some of the recent threads where they belong... In whine and cheese.

I honestly thought that some of the noobs would join in on this but maybe they're afraid of loosing support from some of those that are singing the loudest in the other threads.

Don't worry guys this is just for fun.

:D

Well, last week, after Sunday School, I asked a church lady if I could make a knife out of a 1954 Chevy Bel Air rear bumper. She politely told me to STFU.

Like my old buddy Rodney Dangerfield said, "I just don't get no respect"

As far as being a "noob", "redneck", or "otherwise illeterate"......... I resemble all those statements.

"Why can't we just all get along?" Wasn't that from another well known Rodney?

I'll take number 38 please, and thanks for the offer on the painted little giant with the map quest arm that also doubles as a KMG.

Gotta go now...... my meds are wearing off.

Rob.......Bob........Rube......Glob....... or somebody like that.

Rick, I see your point. I freely plead guilty to wholeheartedly engaging in some pretty silly stuff in recent threads. You're right that we probably shouldn't clutter this forum with foolishness.

However, we already have subforums for that, no need for a new one. W&C and Pirate's Cove are no-holds-barred; and within the maker's forum, we have Around the Grinder to express pretty much whatever we want. It's fair to say that certain recent threads should have been started there instead of the Q&A section.

Re: threads about newbies asking dumb questions, etc... I've seen precious little snobbery. Actually, I've seen a lot of patience and guidance, and have benefitted from it myself. And I don't think it's out of line to expect folks to string together an actual sentence to get their question or point across. Spelling and grammar DO count! If a person can't express themselves in something resembling actual English, I'm going to have a difficult time taking them seriously. Just as any employer or banker or client would.

As to mods policing us, I don't see it being necessary. As a noob, I've noticed that the established guys in here do a pretty good job of keeping themselves under control. I'll try harder to follow that example.

On the other hand, if you don't find the "do you read before posting" thread funny, you might want to take your sense of humor in for a check-up ;)

Yea Robert I had to think twice about posting that and then I thought about editing it. But I figured no he'll get the tongue in cheek behind it. :) I do agree with James and Robert though, that I've thought the newbie threads were all about patience and guidance and very lil snobbery. and that I resemble 2 outa 3 of those... "noob", "redneck", or "otherwise illeterate" which one's I'll never know. Also a certain newbie here, has had his work noticed in whine and cheese and lets just say it wasnt very flattering.

I think the basic point was: keep the level of discourse at as high a level as possible.

Sounds reasonable!

Did you know, only 50 kids out of a 100 graduate high school in L.A .

Maybe Bladeforums, in a small way, is raising the educational standards in the country.

Just the rantings of an uneducated hillbilly that likes to learn.:)

If everyone starts graduating, who's going to get minimum wage at McDonald's?!?!

i have to say everyone here has been very nice and answered my stoopid noobie questions and i appreciate it. it was a bit disconcerting that i told my wife how cool everyone was on here and that i really was glad that i had actually become a paying member to help support the site etc. and then the next day the threads complaining about newbies started popping up. i was like oh great did i just waste my money? i'm glad that things have calmed down! i enjoy the forum and have learned so much from you guys. because of this forum i am building a forge and building my own burners! i never thought that i could do this on my own.

thank you everyone!

I take the name, "Shoptalk" to mean the kind of stuff that we'd all be discussing in our shops. Like when I have friends over and such. I can promise you that it's not all serious talk about knifemaking procedure when friends are here in my shop. There's lots of laughing, lying, ribbing, and goofing around.

To me personally, Shoptalk is a better place for having that kind of stuff too. :)

I think if you ask anybody that actually has met me, I'm about as far from pretentious or snobby as they come. I'll make fun of myself for a laugh just as soon as I would somebody else. :)

I'll vouch for that. Haven't met the lunatic in person, but he does put up with a lot of ribbing around here and in Around the Grinder.

Us left-handed folks gotta stick together

This mod is a lot more proactive than you might imagine. I happen to be the proponent of allowing full mangina oozing in shoptalk, keeps it fun. About the only garbage that isnt kosher in this forum is personal attacks against each other. I feel that's about the only time where a Man should have to step in to interfere with other Men.

Hope my grammer and spelling didnt make anyones cooter hurt :D

Jake, it's just like the coffee shop downtown. You find a that great coffee shop, where good guys hang our early in the a.m. and visit, and good conversation happens, and you enjoy getting your daily dose.

Then comes the morning when the not-so-well-adjusted bunch drops in and changes the atmosphere with their commentaries on otherwise good discussions.

The next day things are back to normal, but you've now learned who to watch for and overlook.

Most forums operate in the same manner. The one here is certainly one of the better "coffee shops" I've encountered. Very little troll behavior, if any, and the amazingly adult practice of disagreeing without being impolite about it. Experienced hands making positive comments about the efforts of newbies is a real encouragement to the new guys here, and to me, especially.

Most knife forums tend to operate this way. Very few others do. I've hosted or participated in dozens of forums, and the knife forums, particularly this one, are a cut above the rest (pun unintended) when it come to the nature of the social interaction within. I've learned far more reading the content here than I would ever have learned on my own, fumbling around in the creative darkness without a teacher.

Got to go, my coffee cup (not the virtual one) needs a refill.
