Hi folks,

I'm looking to offload my CS Trailmaster San Mai III and jump in to the Busse world (can't look at the knife the same since coming here :> ). I'm looking for recommendations on which models will be possible. I'm looking to spend about $350-450 for a 9-10 inch blade. I have not ruled out Swamp Rat as the chopweiler is certainly my style of blade. I am looking to use the heck out of this knife and would prefer a satin or stripped finish as opposed to any coatings. I appreciate all your recommendations and direction. cheers.

Sorry I may edit my OP. I did not intend to make this a sale or trade thread. I will do that in another thread when ready. Just looking for recommendations here. Thanks though.

A 9-10" factory satin Busse is going to be a little out of your price range. There are a lot of coated blades in that size and price range. I am a fan of CGFBM's and they hover around the $450 mark.

I man even need to throw another hundred in the budget. I'm kind of realizing this now. I would probably buy a used one id the opportunity come along as well. I can tell by this inner feeling I have that there will be one in my hand some time soon. I've felt this before about other things in my life so I know it's not going away :D

Thanks Greg. Sorry I edited this post while you posted below. not trying to make your response look irrelevant

The Chopweiler is a great knife. You would be well served with that one. You might also want to try out the Desert Storm Fighter and the NMSFNO at right around the same size. If you are looking for satin at that price point you might find a Swamp Rat M9 that is also of the size you want. For something a bit smaller, but a real bargain, take a look at the Scrap Yard store at the new Mad Dog knife that was just released and not yet sold out.

Good luck with your search. This is a great family of knives.

The Bushwacker Mistress would be a great option, and if the extra inch doesn't bother you, you can find a B-11 for $297 at gun and knife shows that Busse attends.

The Satin B-11s at Knob Creek were $397. But both the Bushwacker and the B-11 look clean if you strip them. I've seen only minor INFI dimbles on B-11s and none on the Bushwackers.

Id like a bit more weight than the DSF, and the Mad Dog is too small for my liking

The SR M9 is a sexy peice as is the NMSFNO. I leaning a little longer but i'm not sure about the battle mistress as it seems like it dwarfs even my trail master. I think ive managed weed out scrapyard bc I prefer the handle style of the Busse and SR. Again I appreciate the help folks. These are murky waters right now. I am looking for that knife that might be a lifer.

You're talking basic 11 right? What turns me off about the basic 11 is the covered tang on the butt end of the handle. I'm loving the exposed tangs of the mistress. I have been eying the mistress I must admit.

I didn't get that impression at all.

Cheers,

It's a tough call here. I'm not a collector per say because I don't intend to have more than one tool for the job. I may have smaller blades or a good folder but this will be the big boy chopping slicing blade that I will cherish. I wish I had access to the mistress so I could pay it a visit. I live in Canada so I guess the next step is finding a seller that has one. Not necessarily in Canada.

Don't own one myself, but the DOGFATHER would do well replacing your Trailmaster
- $250-$300
10 inch blade of SR-77 steel.
You're gonna pay alot more for 10 inches of INFI

Yeah BWMs are a steal right now and worth every penny. They rule.

But eventually you'll want a CGFBM too :D

Swamp Rat is coming out with a chopper soon. A number of us have been calling for the ChopMastiff, which is like the Chopweiler but has a longer blade, and it is possible that's what it is. Either way, it's going to be big and awesome, and it is typically cheaper to buy directly from the company than the secondary market.
