I think this guy needs a RAT Firestarter....

Man, I wonder what I was doing wrong with my flint and steel? i was throwing sparks so. I would presume that it must have been the bird nest and dryer lint were not the right combo or consistency to properly catch and feed the spark...
The bow drill was rather natural and easy for me; it seemed to respond more so with the amount of downward pressure asserted upon the rod. There seemed to be a sweet spot were the pressure was great enough to produce an adequate amount of friction to facilitate smoke and then embers; yet it was not so great as to seize the rods rotation. Play around with it.

hopefully that may help you.

Play around with the "rod"! GET IT? OHHHHH HOOOO HAHAAAAHAAAAAAAAA
HA HA ......HA . HA ha ahhh ha he
ok sorry i had to say it before Lupus gets back on and nails me with it.

The lint stash was enough ribbing for me.

LOL, it would have ultimately been more fun if he had. He is just having to learn some new things in the transition from herbivore to omnivore. For example : Do NOT repeatedly douse the coals with fluid.....I feared for my own brows.

bug spray works. I had to use it a couple weeks ago. half an hour of using a light my fire flint and steel- no fire. hit it with a little OFF and bam-fire.

All the threads get off topic. Lol check out texas camping yee haww. That went from good to bad to worse to terrible and cycled through that very path a few times.

I was a "passive observer" at both fire attempts. Good stuff. :D

The bowstring one sure did make the board really warm, I think he was on to something with that one.
