I thought the Buck 110 was a recommended knife?

Just came home from wallyworld with one since I had $20 store credit I didn't have a need for.

I'm confused because this knife is supposedly made in USA, but it does not feel like it or look like it. What's the deal?

Yea, they are made in the USA. Maybe you got a reproduction that wasn't a real "Buck" brand?

Is this it?

Does it say "Buck, 110, USA" on the blade?r

Sounds like you did get a Buck if you got it at Wally-World. I was thinking of getting one from there. What exactly doesn't feel or look "USA" about it?

Yes that is the one I've got. I got it from Walmart, so I highly doubt it's a knock off.

The lock up isn't all that great, it's got quite a bit of blade play (front/back and side to side), the blade looks cheap (although it is sharp). I guess I should've looked at it harder before I bought it, but I expected more of a US made Buck. Hell even the China made Buck I bought was of higher quality than this one is.

I'm a fan of Kershaw knives, I have plenty of them throughout their price range, and none of them have felt as cheap as this Buck.

IDK maybe I'm being too hard on it already. I'll give it a few days of messing around with and breaking in and see what happens. It's definitely too heavy to carry IMO, but I'll see how it does with working around the house.

It probably does seem heavy since I believe they have been making it the same way basically for 40-50 years. All these new steels and light weight knives may have you used to a different feel.

Like you said though, give it a few days. There is a solid quality in that knife and it started a whole new way of looking at folders. So it's a collectible as well as a strong and heavy hunting pocket knife. I believe something with the way it locked was a new invention. You would have to ask the Buck guys here, they should respond to you soon when the get online. I like the Buck 110 and it's smaller version, the 112; I have one in my tackle box right now.

I always did think the 110 was a bit of a beast, basically a fixed blade made into a folder. To carry in my pocket I prefer the 112 Ranger. The 110 I like also, just to carry in a tackle box or bag.

I think I might have been happier with a 112, but this was the only USA made Buck they had at the store.

I think the way the blade steel looks and the brass coloring kind of puts me off. I think a nice stone washed blade would be nice and silver on the handle instead of the brass color.

If you got one with any blade play, you got one of the very very few that got through quality control unnoticed. I would imagine walmart will take it back and exchange. They may just return it and then you can go on the Buck website and get a 112 at the 40% off sale. see this thread.

Worst case scenario, you have to send it back to Buck and they will repair or replace and they normally send you a discount card for your trouble-exceptional customer svc.

maybe you just got one with bad fit-and-finish. I would look at the blade stamp just to make sure it's a buck 110 made in the USA. Heck, you can always send it back to buck and explain you're problems and they can fix it for you (they have great customer service and their knives come under a lifetime warranty).

ps: the buck 110 is a great knife, a true American classic. its tough, reliable, and is recommended by a lot of people for a good reason. hope this helped

Buck does mfg. 110's in the configuration your describing . However, they are up grades and not sold a the retailer named . You'll find knives of different finish and higher end steels offered at better knife stores . ie. Cabela's, Smokey Mt. and Buck's website . DM

Are there different grades of the Buck 110 as far as the standard wood/brass version? I ask because it is quite common to find them in stores for 29.99, but on bucks website, it is 66 bucks. Maybe there is a lesser grade with poorer fit and finish that goes to retail and sporting good stores that sells for less?

The standard 110 is the same... The price on Bucks website are retail prices and walmart are half or less of retail... Same knife... That's what I was told...

yes I think there are. I heard about some buck 110's being made in china and they cost less money (don't quote me on that because I don't know that for a fact). I hope that the ones made in the USA don't vary in quality but i guess some slip past quality control.

I don't think they ever made a 110 or 112 in China... If they did that's big new...

I don't know for sure and I don't think so but I did read an article that someone wrote saying that when he went out to get a 110 he saw a cheaper model 110 that was made in china. Maybe he was getting confused with a 110 knockoff. I sure do hope so. I wish I could find the article again but I cant seem to find it.

I've actually seen pictures on a Chinese web site of the counterfeit 110's. They have copied them right down to the boxes, but they are not Bucks.

If the 110 is too heavy for you, maybe a little time in the gym would help. ;) I'm 68 years old and can't even tell I have one on my belt.

I just got a new 110 and mine also has a little front-back play. I'm a little disappointed. I don't know if it warrants a return though.

I agree with ITE and Plumber . The 110 is 'only' made at Post Falls, ID. USA . Buck makes many different variations on the same 110 . ie. some ingraved, etched, polished, different handles and blade steels . DM

The knives often come new with some grit and crud inside. Clean them and oil 'em up first, especially the cutout in the back of the blade. They may fit correctly after that.
