I tried, I really did...

...I tried to carry and use other brands of knives and failed miserably! I tried to carry my Cold Steel folders and they just ate up my pockets. I tried to carry my Buck knives, but they just didn't have the edge I am used to on an Emerson. I tried to carry my Spyderco knives, but they just didn't have the great ergonomics of my Emersons.

So, the moral of the story is that if you value the other knives in your collection, don't buy an Emerson, because you will be addicted to the end of time! ;)

I will agree, Emersons are addicting, but not so much that I would want to eliminate all other options... Spydies are addicting to, as well as SOG, Cold Steel, Benchmade, Strider....... Ahh hell, you get my point....

I usually carry a 12 or P-Tac and sometimes a Kerambit....... but I have been having an extraknifeital fling with the Umnumzaan for a while now.

My EKIs don't say anything but they give me that look letting me know they can smell the S30V on my shirt when I come in. :o

Yes, I certainly do, hissatsu, and I thought I was the only one that had a wandering eye. Sometime I feel so cheap, because I'll go with whatever pretty face beckons me at the time. :o

lol! :D

Spyderco has always been my first love, and probably always will be. But since I bought my first EKI, late last year (I now have 5), there always seems to be at least one in my pockets. Usually though it's paired with at least one Spydie too.

I don't like emerson knives. I feel like I gave them more then a fair shot seeing as how I have bought 3 already. I'll never buy one again unless they start making framelocks, and even then I'll wait until I handle one first. My biggest problem is with the flimsy liner locks. On every emerson I have handled, the liner locks performed inconsistently with lockup and durability. Yes, after the break in period. I'm sorry but EKI is not for me. To each his own.

I'm not sure on what you can base these claims on ? Actually, I suppose you can say what ever you like, but still......

I have owned one or two Emersons in my time and have only had one knife that had a real problem with the lock. I think some people just don't know what to expect and are dissapointed when they actually have little reason for being so.

I expect lockup to be tight, I expect 0 blade play up down or sideways, I expect the 3 emersons that I have owned within the last 2 years to funtion flawlessly. (Btw, this is what I am basing my claims on.) Let's not forget, they are the #1 Hard Use Knives in the World! Right?

I realise you feel there was an inconsistancy in the locks and they felt flimsy but did it ever actually fail ?

What part of the knives had flaws that were on a scale large enough to cause problems during use ?

As for the "#1 hard use knives in the word" that is called marketing, EKI knives are just like any other well made knife using the same matrials.

Now if emersons got the license from benchmade to use axis locks then their marketing slogan would be correct :p

I just picked up a Benchmade 553. I dig the Axis and the Emerson knife!

I've never had a liner lock problem with an Emerson...and I've got a safe door covered in them.

I generally carry another knife along with an Emerson, usually a Spyderco Military or Paramilitary. I see the Emerson as a rough-use knife that's been to some of the worse spots on earth in my pocket and in my gear. The Spyderco is a sharp little slicer.

During my last go-around in Iraq I had several Emersons on my person and in my gear, as well as a couple of Spyderco knifes, for folders, and a Cold Steel SRK for a fixed blade. I picked up an Emerson-Kneely fixed blade knife, which had already done a tour over there, but it didn't make it to me in the field in time. I'd have been happy to have it along, though.

I like the axis lock, but the thin omega springs seem to be a turn off for this "esteemed" locking mechanism. :foot:

Have heard much more people talk of springs breaking on the axis lock over Emerson's liner locks disengaging or failing.

My first emerson had a bad lock. A CQC11. I gave that knife to a good friend as a present and told him it send it in. He did. They took care of him. Thats the main reason I gave EKI another shot. They stand behind their products. Since, I've owned one 8, one Mini 8, two Commanders. They were all great but still prefer framelocks. I now have 3 HD7s that I carry at different times and couldn't be happier. I still love my BM710s and 940s but an EKI HD7 is in my pocket at least 80% of the time.

BTW, they do make framelocks, the 12 and hd7.

I only have one emerson and I really like it. Its a new a-100. Handles really well and holds and edge pretty well. It and my sebenza are my main carry folders :)

My Super CQC-8 has been holding up beautifully under some pretty hard work.

The liner used to look shallow and unstable, but I've noticed that, after some regular use, the liner actually crawls deeper into the body when I open it. Now when I open it, it sits directly under the blade and the lock is tighter than...er, I can't think of a non-sexual metaphor but you get the idea.

If liner locks, particularly on Emersons, were really as weak and unstable as a lot of people seem to fear they are, then we'd see a lot more stories about lock failures circulating around, and EKI would be going belly-up.
