well folks, i know full well that its been explored a million times on here, but i dont understand where the concept of any knife being a dangerous weapon came from. today at work i open my mini pika to cut an apple and my coworker accuses me of bring a dangerous weapon into the workplace. Calmly explaining its use as a tool did little to convince her.... hey i know this is beating a dead horse, but i just had to vent a bit... *sheesh*

Well, it is a black military-looking knife, not a knife your grandfather carried when you were a kid.

This topic has been discussed online forever and ever.
* You can forget about it and let people think what they want.
* You can carry a knife that might be more suitable for your workplace - a SAK, small slipjoint with traditional materials, etc.
* You can stop carrying your own and grab a kitchen knife from the break room or a boxcutter from the supply drawer when you need to cut something.
* You can be more discrete about displaying your knife.

Whatever you choose is OK by me.

Don't let it get you down. Unless they are carnivors and beleive that you shouldn't hurt fruit don't worry about it. You proved that a knife is a tool and not a weapon.

If you would have cut up your apple with a 10” Chefs knife, you would not have raised an eyebrow, but pull out a small folder and you are looked upon as the next Ted Bundy or Jeffrey Dahmer.
Some people are a little mixed up, confused or probably ignorant when it comes to determining what constitutes a deadly weapon.
Did your co-worker have a better method to cut an apple that did not require a knife??

where the concept of any knife being a dangerous weapon came from.
That idea is everywhere. Popular movies. Some of our fellow knife buyers. The knife companies' advertising and marketing. Police reports and the news. Parents/teachers/government. Their own imagination.

Who knows where that specific lady got it from; you'll have to ask her.

Bring an auto to work tomarrow. :D

hey, every knife is a dangerous weapon.
as are the afore mentioned pencils, and your shoes, and your staple puller, and your laptop, and..... wait a minute so is everything you can possibly do somebody greivous harm with i.e. almost anything.
paradigms can be a bitch.

I'd have to have at least two extra hands in order to count on my fingers the number of times I've wanted to strangle someone at work with a length of CAT5 cable. But never had the temptation to stab anyone.

If people are so convinced your pocket knife is "dangerous" then why would they endanger their lives by confronting you about it. If someone pointed a scattergun at her head she wouldn't say "boo" because she would be piddling down her legs. Therefore me thinks that she thinks it is not so dangerous but is just being a busy body and a beeyotch!

Sorry for the rant, I was irritated to begin with today.

Paul, that's a very good point. Or perhaps she was just trying to make conversation - the lady's infatutuated with 'metacarpals' and thought she could "get lucky" if she heaped attention on his posessions. :)

Is that a big sharp dangerous knife in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

according to the us government hands and feet can be consided deadly weapons also why would you even need a knife to hurt a person. US special forces are trained to instantly kill people by breaking thier neck silently so why would they need a knife?

p.s. bring a balisong or a neck knife to work and see what she thinks

Ask her to peel or slice an apple with her fingernails. :o

Something's been 'eating' at me about this post and now I know what it is. Why would you peel or slice an apple?

So you don't have to pick apple skin out from between your teeth with your knife. Do you really want to freak them out?
