Not "lucky" lucky but lucky in the literal sense...

For the record, I am actually 42 years old. But, today I felt like a 10 year old boy on the BEST FIELD TRIP EVER!
I was in Denver to visit customers and decided I was going to go find Spyderco in Golden while I had the chance.

I was really just hoping there would be a good showroom to check out and maybe a little historic Spyderco memorabilia.

Like most fans though, I also had a "pie in the sky" hope (deep in the back of my mind) that maybe I might get lucky enough to run into Sal or Eric wandering around while I was there...good luck right..?

So I went in and found a fantastic showroom that had every Spyderco knife available. It was great to see the few I had yet to see in person and hold all of the Spyders that I have an interest in but are not stocked at my local shop. They had some nice displays of entire series' including the variations like all of the Native series including a "one-off" for example. The people were very friendly and helpful too.

Then it happened....As I was watching a video showing Gayle Bradley and others in a cutting competition, and checking out the display of the custom knives that were used in the competition, I saw Sal walk down the hall!

I said to the nice girl working in the showroom, "I happen to live in a neighborhood filled with movie stars and famous sports athletes, I'm used to seeing famous people often, but I just saw SAL walk by...that was so cool!!!" And to my amazement she said..."would you like to say hi to him?" (are you kidding me? OF COURSE I want to say hi to him!! Don't be ridiculous!...is what I thought) "yes please" is what I said. She asked my name and called Sal over and introduced us.

I thought, if Sal just shakes my hand and says "nice to meet you" or "thanks for stopping by" and goes straight back to work, this will still be a visit to Spyderco I'll never forget.

Oh no! That's not how Sal rolls! He's the coolest guy! I don't even want to tell you how much time he spent talking with me just so that he doesn't feel pressure to spend that much time with everyone that reads this if he doesn't want to. I'll just say, he was incredibly generous with his time and shared many great stories with me while I was there. This was beyond an unforgettable visit for me. He openly talked about designs, blade steels, upcoming knives, everything I wanted to ask about...he told me about. It was Awesome!

After all the time and discussion what I got most from Sal was that he is passionate about America, about knives and about doing right by people. There were 4 or 5 times during our conversation when I thought "wow, knowing that about you (or Eric, or the company) makes me love my Spydercos even more."

I left Spyderco today inspired to think happy thoughts and leave shiny footprints. (and more inspired than ever to continue building up my Spyder collection)

Mr. Glesser, thank you so very much for your generosity! I'll never forget the time you gave me.

Gratefully,
Chad

That's a day alot of people would want to see but never becomes a reality. Please tell me you didn't walk out of there without him signing your knife.;)

OMG! My mind was so blown by the unbelievable access he was giving me that I wasn't thinking clearly...It never occurred to me. I even had my Dice and my Techno on me and we talked about them. He was also carrying two knives on him as well. A signed knife would have been cool but I'm happy to have the memories.

That is great, I'll be heading up in two weeks.I'm planning a small road trip hitting little hidden gems off the beaten path with Spyderco a turn around point. Low key and lots of fun I hope.

Yeah I hear ya. STARSTRUCK.:D Would be hard to keep a convo going with the voices in my head saying the whole time" Get him to sign your knife, Get him to sign your knife.":D I'm sure a alot of folks have his autograph but not everyone can retell what his thoughts were that day what kind a guy he is in person. Congrats on the good day.

That had to be a great visit. I visited the factory store back in August. It was an awesome experience, however, I did not get to me Sal or Eric that day. Lucky you!

Thanks for the cool story.

Yes thank you. The visit sounded exciting and rewarding. Someday if I ever get to Colorado I sure want to make a point of stopping at Spyderco. It would be a real honor to meet Sal, and or Eric.
