Not "lucky" lucky but lucky in the literal sense...
For the record, I am actually 42 years old. But, today I felt like a 10 year old boy on the BEST FIELD TRIP EVER!
I was in Denver to visit customers and decided I was going to go find Spyderco in Golden while I had the chance.

I was really just hoping there would be a good showroom to check out and maybe a little historic Spyderco memorabilia.
[/IMG]
Like most fans though, I also had a "pie in the sky" hope (deep in the back of my mind) that maybe I might get lucky enough to run into Sal or Eric wandering around while I was there...good luck right..?

So I went in and found a fantastic showroom that had every Spyderco knife available. It was great to see the few I had yet to see in person and hold all of the Spyders that I have an interest in but are not stocked at my local shop. They had some nice displays of entire series' including the variations like all of the Native series including a "one-off" for example. The people were very friendly and helpful too.

Then it happened....As I was watching a video showing Gayle Bradley and others in a cutting competition, and checking out the display of the custom knives that were used in the competition, I saw Sal walk down the hall!
I said to the nice girl working in the showroom, "I happen to live in a neighborhood filled with movie stars and famous sports athletes, I'm used to seeing famous people often, but I just saw SAL walk by...that was so cool!!!" And to my amazement she said..."would you like to say hi to him?" (are you kidding me? OF COURSE I want to say hi to him!! Don't be ridiculous!...is what I thought) "yes please" is what I said. She asked my name and called Sal over and introduced us.
I thought, if Sal just shakes my hand and says "nice to meet you" or "thanks for stopping by" and goes straight back to work, this will still be a visit to Spyderco I'll never forget.
Oh no! That's not how Sal rolls! He's the coolest guy! I don't even want to tell you how much time he spent talking with me just so that he doesn't feel pressure to spend that much time with everyone that reads this if he doesn't want to. I'll just say, he was incredibly generous with his time and shared many great stories with me while I was there. This was beyond an unforgettable visit for me. He openly talked about designs, blade steels, upcoming knives, everything I wanted to ask about...he told me about. It was Awesome!
After all the time and discussion what I got most from Sal was that he is passionate about America, about knives and about doing right by people. There were 4 or 5 times during our conversation when I thought "wow, knowing that about you (or Eric, or the company) makes me love my Spydercos even more."
I left Spyderco today inspired to think happy thoughts and leave shiny footprints. (and more inspired than ever to continue building up my Spyder collection)
Mr. Glesser, thank you so very much for your generosity! I'll never forget the time you gave me.
Gratefully,
Chad
