Rainy and cold here. Candidates seem (as usual) as a choice between the lesser of 2 evils. Could have just gone home from work and chilled-out.

I thought about my (deceased) father wading through the carnage and slop of Omaha beach, where all the Germans were 10 feet tall and all shooting at him.

I thought about those Yankee farmers and townsmen who so long ago stood on a little bridge and faced the wrath of the premiere military power in the world.

I thought about every American,in uniform or not, who gave up or who is right now giving up something so that I can be a free man.

And I got my sorry lazy ass down to the polls and voted!

May the blessings of peace and liberty shine on us all.

Well said, Mike.

The right to vote is so important yet, by some, taken so lightly. It is for this great freedom that so many have sacrificed.

I voted. I hope everyone else did too.

As did I. Reminds me of the saying to: "do it in private and wash your hands afterwards." Well, if I haven't thrown up by now, I probably won't.

Yes, as did I. Based on the my state's returns, it's clear that in New Jersey, one doesn't have to go far to prove Darwin's origin of species theory

I'm glad to see that someone remembers back far enough to recall what happened at the bridge.:)

Is that before or after Christ was a corporal? That was before my time. The old timers were still talking about it though.:D ;)

I voted.

Pity California for the Governor's race.

I wonder if the Democrats asked Clinton if he'd step into Minn before Mondale? I wonder if Lautenburg will serve his term or step down? I wonder what the recount in South Dakota will read?

I wonder if Montana will ever dethrone Baucus?

Thanks to all you vets. A slob like me gets to wonder.

Every American should vote! Just make sure you vote for canadates that want to preserve your freedoms and not take them away! Brave men and women didn't die so that slowly our great freedoms could be eroded away!

! Brave men and women didn't die so that slowly our great freedoms could be eroded away>>

It has always amazed me that from under the corruption of a Government individuals will make the ultimate sacrafise. Was Hamburger hill worth taking? No, probably not. Were the men who died worth something? Everything. Skag is right. We have to do our best so that our sons and daughters will not be wasted. Keep the second amendment as the fist behind the first.

I voted, dont always know why, always try and convince my room-mates to vote, they never do, I always get flack living in a Democratic stronghold, though I only vote my conscience it seems if its not their way its inevetibaly the wrong way to them, glad enough people here in MN used their heads when voting, and werent sufficiently brainwashed by a tasteless rally that was held instead of a memorial.

In the first time since I can hardly remember I didn't make it to the polls but Barbie did.
I've been too damn sick to get outta the house for the last two days.:grumpy: But better today a little bit.

The races didn't turn out as I wanted them, but better than things could've been.
Oklahoma, the Urban ones, voted another freedom away so in the end the bastards will deserve just what they get.
Oklahoma was one of the last three states where cockfighting was still legal, notice I said, "still.":(
I may not agree with either side of the issue, but that's beside the point. Oklahoma lost another freedom last night that's gonna have large meaning and retribution to many folks in and out of the business!!!!
For some their sole means of livelihood has been taken from them. Even the least person with an interest such as mine has lost simply because some people wanted to interfere in the lives of others over a damned mindless bird that's been bred for fighting for no telling how many years now.
You just wait!!!!
The next things to be affected will be the hunting, fishing and rodeo laws.
This world has long lost the essential freedoms that mankind needs to prosper and all because somewhen in the past another human took issue with what another human was doing.

Of course, even if this was the first commandment, it would be banned in our schools, court houses, and other government places. :grumpy:

Wonder why "In God We Trust" is still on our coins? The atheists haven't gotten around to fixin' that yet, I suppose.

Yvsa, hope you get to feeling better.

Semper fi, as I cut down my own number of posts, I remember you and others who say things so well and sparingly.

The thing about dogs treeing cougars and cocks fighting, is that these animals need no encouragment from men to do this.
I admit I would be a little reserved about dogs fighting. That may not be fair, but dogs seems of a higher order and deserving more respect.
I'm perfectly willing to allow gang members to kill each other in large stadiums though, with the ticket sales going to public works and victims funds. They are not of a higher order, lower than chickens. A chicken will always be a chicken, but a gang thug could have been a human being.

... ...

when Yvsa's in pain I'm always a little humbled. my own aches seem less. this comming Wednesday I am having my nose broken and set right. Rebored? Apparently over the years I've broken it too many times and now can't breath. Because of this, I cannot sleep and my health has been deteriorating for several years. After many tests and indignities, (try sleeping wired to a machine to record bio levels) and the expense of a sleep machine, someone got the brilliant idea to look up my nose. The doctor gasped, "that's why you can't sleep, your nose is accordianed inside. You ever broken it?"
It took them 20 years to figure this out? The problem has become worse over the years. I always thought as long as the thing was still attached to my face and my movie carreer wasn't hurt who cared? It wasn't mashed or anything....

That was just a joke about the movies. I am not happy about being cut open. I don't trust hospitals or doctors. I just trust my body to heal whatever mess they create.

Munk, if it's any consolation my dad had the same nose problems you do. He was a prizefighter in his youth and had his nose broken about two dozen times. He had colds and sinus infections that would last for YEARS, along with the accompanying headaches and sleeplessness, not to mention the side effects of taking continuous over-the-counter cold medications his entire adult life.

His doctors first advised him to get the nose fixed when he got out of the Marine Corps at age 22. His pride and aversion to doctors caused him to put it off until age 60, when it became a threat to his health. It took him two weeks to recover and he said afterward it wss like having a new head installed and he could not believe the difference it made in his overall well being.

We'll be thinking of you next week. Hang tough, the temporary discomfort will be worth the long term improvement.

Could your Dad breath? I can't get enough O2 to sleep. I wake all the time. He sounds like me. The doctor said, "you're not going to believe what it's like to breath." I live with sinus infections too. I bet your Dad had a lot more damage prizefighting than the few fights, an elbow playing baseball, and the semi truck did to me.
When the light is yellow and a semi is turning left in front of you; let him, my Dad told me afterwards.

I think it would be less painfull to get hit again than cutting it open and jacking around in there. I noticed the Ear Nose and Throat specialist had a wonderfully straight nose. She was bending over me while I was in the chair and I could see everything. She was a very attractive woman with a athlete's body. Her nose was too damn clean though. I couldn't see a single hair. Inhuman. I had to wonder if this was a trademark of the Ear, Nose and Throat crowd, sort of like expecting a Proctologist to have the cleanest fingernails. (!)

Thanks for your kindness. I wasn't going to say anything but Yvsa and Bobwhite reminded me what real pain is and that is was OK to be nervous even for this procedure.

Sorry to hear about your health, Yvsa.

And munk, don't listen to me about doctors and nurses and hospitals. Yes, what happened to me occurs too often, and you should watch out when you are in their hands. But there are also nurses etc., who wouldn't trust their dog to some of the clowns in their profession. Still, be careful around them. Maybe wear something like a Wicked Knife Co. ( Newt Livesay ) neck knife.
