Apparently over the years I've broken it too many times and now can't breath. Because of this, I cannot sleep and my health has been deteriorating for several years.

After many tests and indignities, (try sleeping wired to a machine to record bio levels) and the expense of a sleep machine, someone got the brilliant idea to look up my nose. The doctor gasped, "that's why you can't sleep, your nose is accordianed inside. You ever broken it?"
It took them 20 years to figure this out? The problem has become worse over the years.

You're not alone Munk. I've had mine broken numerous times as well and I myself have on of the breathing machines designed to force air into your nose at night while forcing your mouth to stay closed.

I had the surgery some years back and it was one of the best surgeries I've ever had!!!!
Since then I had gained weight and the fat was blocking off the air flow so...... the machine came along.
Since then I've lost some weight and now no longer use it.

I don't sleep like a normal human as my days and nights are broken up into periods of being awake and periods of being asleep.
The most I've managed at one time lately has been 4 1/2 hours straight.
That felt really good.
I've just ordered a new air mattress that's supposed to be the end of all mattresses, we'll see.

Four and a half hours straight would be great. You know what I'm talking about alright. Even if I breathed perfectly my back will wake me up. Too long in any position causes pain.

I have a matted cotton futon about 5" thick. It is the hardest mattress I've found. I need a new mattress, though, as i've worn valleys into the material. Lemme know if your new mattress is any good.

After this surgery they will evaluate whether I need the one for the back of the throat.

Yvsa, if this was an arm or leg I'd feel better. I don't like the idea of them cutting the material underneath my nose. I have a fairly high pain tolerance for some things. A couple years ago I broke three 'long' bones in my foot. I mentioned it to the doctor 2 months after the fact. X-rays showed everything knitting nicely. The breaks were exactly where I told the physician they would be.

I came up with the sound treatment of staying off my foot as much as possible. I walked carefully. I could even climb a hill as long as I walked sideways.

No one knows where they will be when they are older. You don't know what kind of health. I would not like to be in the kind of pain you've had. I believe it was Walosi who once said enduring that beats the alternative.
