I want a Benchamde. But which one?

With all due respect and apologies to Sal and the other Spydies I have decided to get my first BM. Please bare in mind that I have about five Spydies on the wish list as well, so I still love the knives with the hole. Anyway to my questions and/or parameters:

1.As of now I refuse to spend over $125.00 for a knife (just my opinion folks), so it needs to be under that figure.

2.What would be a good BM with which to start? By this I mean one with the ergonomics, quality and design that would constitute a prime example of BM's work.

3.I'm looking at PE.

4.It doesn't have look tactical.

5.Blade no longer than 3".

6. Scales/handle material is up for discussion.

7.I prefer something with a clip.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

You live in an Auto-friendly state... try any of the small benchmade automatics...

I like the new Mel Pardue... very elegant knives...

I love the 94x series(ie 943), especially my precious the 941D2CF! The Osborne design really fits well in the hand and springs open as fast as any auto I have held. (and the 94x series is under $125 if you know where to shop)

One thing is certain, if you are only getting one Benchmade, make it an axis lock. Really a great system!

I'd recommend the Benchmade 705. I had one and I absolutely loved it. It fits your "list" perfectly: the blade is just under 3", you can find them online for less than $125, it has the AXIS lock, it comes in plain edge, has a clip, the liners are stainless steel, and the scales are G-10. One of Benchmade's best folders, IMO.

I know that knives pass in and out of our hands over the years but I was wondering if there was a particular reason that you don't have it anymore. Thanks for the responses so far, keep 'em coming please :) .

I'm very partial to both my BM 705 knives. :D The 705 is a smaller version of the popular 710 of which I also own. Some people might say the 705 is overbuilt. I just plain love it. The 705 oozes Benchmadeness!!

I also like the Griptilians, but really can't justify another folder w/ an AXIS lock at this time. Plus I'm saving for a Dozier for next hunting season anyway.

I would second your advice because I like mine 940 Osborne a lot and often carry it being formally dressed. It looks very classy and not tactical at all :)
However the original request have specified blade length less than 3 inches. Among Hobbit sized :D Benchmades probably Mini-Griptilians could make the best bang for the buck.
Sometimes their handles are colored in pretty non-tactical colors ;)

I don't have it anymore because I traded it for a California legal automatic (the Protech Runt if you were wondering). There was absolutely nothing I didn't like about the 705, but I just like to get a feel for the other kinds of knives that are out there. Eventually, I'd like to get another 705.

Go for the 770. nice litweight carbon fiber knife that will not get anyone worried. A real nice pocket knife. I believe it can be had for about 115

Another vote for the 705! I have the 705BT plus the BM Forum Knife version. I love it! It's my EDC, and I'm waiting for BM to make another special limited run. I need a third 705! :D

Thanks for the welcome Serg, been lurking a while and finally decided to start posting a little.

I guess with the perfect design of the 941, I forget it is over 3".

Absolutely the 705 then. I don't have it yet, but really want one, especially in H2.

H2? Or do you mean D2, M2, or S30V?

The Benchmade 690 is a superior knife.

It's the best Benchmade I know of, but it might not be completely representative of their product line since it does not have an Axis lock.

I really like the 690. That's what I rotate w/ my 710HS. I use the 551 as my "beater"...
