I want a Benchamde. But which one?

I was gonna say the 735, but then I saw your blade length requirement. If you're willing to go up to 3.6", the 735 is a sweet knife, and only $107 at New Graham.

Can't go wrong with a 77X (non tactical looking) or 705 (tactical looking). Never handled a Mini-Griptillian, but have heard many good things about them. Might want to look into a 921, are they under 3"??? If you're not worried about legality and only what others think, the 94X knives are as sheeple friendly as most <3" blade I've seen.

Thanks for all the great responses so far folks. I looked at the 705 on a few dealer sites and now have this question. If I go with the 705 or even another BM should I get the satin finish or the BT2?

at night, less visible for self-defense purposes. Also the coating makes cutting easier.

Kref.

I'd go with the satin finish. I think the BT coating makes it look more "tactical" and less sheeple friendly. With the satin finish, it gives the knife a nice "contrasty" look since the handle scales are black already.

705 plain or BT2 are perfect for hard use knives. The 771BC1-01 is pure elegance. If you could go a hair over 3", the 921 is incredible. To assuage your guilt for not buying a Spydy, ditch the 3" max length and get the 806D2. It has a reassuring oval and many other good features. It's no Benchmade 921 Switchback, but it doesn't have to be.

stay with a satin finish, its easier to polish out scratches. 705 or 770 is the best in a 3" blade or under. axis lock is the greatest ! :) :)

If you can find one, I have carried a BM 640 mini spike for about 4 years now and it has never let me down. Any Benchmade you pick will be a great knife. Later

The 705 would get my vote as well. The 31 is a 3" bali. If balis are your "thing", it makes a great EDC for the bali fan.
