And a less than understanding (when it comes to knife needs) wife. I live in the higher end burbs of Orlando in a town house. It's near a big state park so it's very natural, but its not the woods by any means. My in-laws live on 30 acres in SC with a lake and shooting range on property. It is the woods. Deer, other wild life, etc. Me, not so much. I have a BK15, which I acquired as a camping knife. I have a Mora Companion as a fishing knife. I have a custom 2.75 AEL-B as an EDC fixed blade. I have a D2 rat 7, which i traded for. FWIW trades are fine across the board. As long as I don't buy it. Then I must explain why. We go camping a couple times a year and it's nothing hardcore by any means. There is no site clearing, maybe some wood splitting, which i have a hatches and the aforementioned Rat 7 to accomplish. So help enable me! I know we are good at that. Could it be used to prune a Crepe Myrtle? Probably. would one of my other tools be much better? Probably. Should i just deal with out it and maybe get a 9 later? It's just so cool looking, with no other purpose than to chop stuff down, and I don't have anything to chop! Does it work better than a hatchet? Could it replace my Estwing?

How about the It's been discontinued approach? Special low pricing won't last; and once they're "gone" it will be inflated prices on the secondary market.

That's the only angle I can think of right now. It's an investment! that or I sell (which is also out of production) :

and buy whatever LOL.

Sorry bro...
Your man card has been suspended until you tell her "cuz I want it, there's no other explanation than...I'm a guy, its a knife...guys like knives"

then the girl parts card will be suspended. She like shoes. I like knives, and fishing poles, and fancy shaving gear, camping, shooting and cameras, and boats. We made a deal, whereas If i get a new knife i get rid of one. She does the same thing with shoes. This has not leaked over into my other hobbies, and I don't want to cause increased scrutiny. Are you married NCSlice?

I beg to differ on the statement that the BK4 has "no other purpose than to chop stuff down." I find that the shape is well suited towards using it as a draw-knife for shaping wood. I've used it to shape shims for stabilizing a garden shed and similar garden work. My son has used it to strip bark off of a walking stick and cut it to final shape. This plus "collectability" means you need to buy two.

I recommend "trading" your mora for a fillet knife, Bk 4 and bk9. ;)

Yes. I am (still) married.

Trust me, you'll find a use for it. As GSO mentioned, it's handy for lots of things.

I'm married too, but she already knew I was a knifemaker/knife knut when we got hitched, so that doesn't really count. :p

Lol. She knows it was ~ $10 from Amazon on cyber Monday. I'll just have to sell a folder. Bye bye Mr bluto. You served me never.

Sell the mora, or donate it to a boy scouts den and carry your 15 as a fishing knife and buy a pancake kydex for ease of cleaning.

Buy the 4 and be happy.

You said gain a knife, lose a knife. Gain a pair of shoes, lose a pair of shoes.
An equivalent dollar value wasn't stated as far as exchange between the volume of knives sold/bought.

I am not "married" but the mother of my daughter would get Very mad if she read that.

Do you each have an equal number of knives and shoes?
Order one to be sent to your relatives with all the acreage. Then you'll have a toy when you visit.

Daizee's onto something big. 2 knives= 1 pair of shoes, same number of pieces. BTW, I'm married. Knives are a lot cheaper than guns so she's content if I buy knives. Try that angle.

the 15 is too heavy for a fishing knife. I have alternatives there, like the little AEB-L custom I have. Let's say i get the 4. What do you use to sharpen it? I free hand, and that looks not fun.

I've been married 9 years, and yet I still buy what I want. I work hard for my money and aslong as the bills are paid first if I want a new knife I buy it..I don't ask permission, but I also don't go out of my way to draw attention to a new purchase...and unless it's being delivered via mail when I'm not home it will typically just get slipped in with the others.

My typically response when one might be noticed is o I've had this one for along time lol.

My wife doesn't understand why I need so many knives, according to her they all do the same thing... But she doesn't dictate what I can or can't buy nor would it go over well if she tried.

All well and good, but we have an arrangement and i am goign to keep my end of it. I have over $1000 worth of new fishing gear I have added in the past few months. I have new camera gear I bought. I have a new laptop, tablet smart watch, the list goes on and on There are places where I compromise. Knives are one, because she doesn't understand the need for all the different ones. That being said its a decision i have made. She can't go out and buy purses and shoes with abandon either like she used to. Compromise. Anyway back to my latest question, how hard is it to sharpen on bench stones?

Not too hard, if you turn the stone on its side so it is a narrower profile it will be a bit easier however it isn't that hard.

You limit knives. She limits shoes AND purses?
Master negotiator!
