I want a BK4 but have absolutley no use for it.

I have a diamond rod by Lansky and a ceramic rod of unknown make (was included when I ordered from CoyleOutdoors.com).
But you can get by just fine with a stick sanded smooth (or a wooden dowel) and SiC sandpaper (wet or dry).

Speaking of Coyle outdoors, Tate is a Great guy to deal with and does some Really nice work on Beckers.

then the girl parts card will be suspended. She like shoes. I like knives, and fishing poles, and fancy shaving gear, camping, shooting and cameras, and boats. We made a deal, whereas If i get a new knife i get rid of one. She does the same thing with shoes. This has not leaked over into my other hobbies, and I don't want to cause increased scrutiny. Are you married NCSlice?

20 years...dang sorry man. No way I'd ever got into a deal like that. Shoes just don't equate.
Now, I get a knife...you get shoes is one thing...but one in one out? That's just not fair. Shoes may be ruined, feel bad, out of style, or whatever... Knives don't do that.

Your talking like you only have a few knives, so one more is no problem.
When nutoknives says something like that...I get it.

I have a dozen or so. It's really not a bad deal, because I have ditched a $20 Kershaw and acquired a Sebeneza in the past. Funny story- I have bought more shoes than she has in the past year, and I don't have to get rid of any. :D I'd way rather have a limit on knives than, let's say, fishing gear. I love my knives, but I love my fishing gear more :). It's a different kind of love really.

You know the saying " Jack of all trades master of none" well the 4 is the exception. If you learn to use it it can chop, carve, split, draw knife, fine work heavy work. It is good at all of them.
Get one just to have the bases covered.

Say its what you want for christmas. Lol. maybe sell something else to get the funds for it. Or just buy it and deal with the consequences later. It is easier to apologize after you have it..

I don't ask for permission from my wife to buy a knife. I'm a man. Just yesterday I told her "you just shut your piehole woman. I'm the boss around here and I'll do what I want, and you'll like it."

Thank god she wasn't home. My wife used to play rugby. She'd beat me like a rented mule.

The 4 is a really versatile tool. It's not as big as you'd think, it works for clearing brush, any and all camping chores, it's a great draw knife. Try explaining it that way and see if she's feeling Christmasy.

Sorry bro...
Your man card has been suspended until you tell her "cuz I want it, there's no other explanation than...I'm a guy, its a knife...guys like knives"

This lame explanation only works for newly weds who still have individual bank accounts. [emoji6]

I have the 9, and it does what's needed. I don't have a 4 either and I debate the need for it every time I want a new knife. And.....the 4 loses every time. It's not that the 4 isn't great. It is, as so many here will attest. But "want" and "need" and "will use" are terms only you'll be able to figure out regardless of what is posted here. I'd like to have a 4, I just don't see myself ever using it. Heck, I have a 7 that is nothing but dead weight really. Still in the box, likely to never come out as long as the 9 is around.

Skip the 4 I say. Wait for the 9, it ain't going anywhere.

So if i get the 4, i can already see a 9 thread in my future :o to go fishing with of course ;)

That'd be more illegal than dynamiting them.

I've been married 9 years, and yet I still buy what I want. I work hard for my money and aslong as the bills are paid first if I want a new knife I buy it..I don't ask permission, but I also don't go out of my way to draw attention to a new purchase...and unless it's being delivered via mail when I'm not home it will typically just get slipped in with the others.

My typically response when one might be noticed is o I've had this one for along time lol.

My wife doesn't understand why I need so many knives, according to her they all do the same thing... But she doesn't dictate what I can or can't buy nor would it go over well if she tried.

So, in other words.....she really has no idea what you buy because you are a sneaky SOB.....like a lot of other folks here....including myself. My "man card" was torn up and lit on fire by my wife quite some time ago. Turns out I don't need the card anyway......... 'cause I ain't going back to that club. Now I'm just trying to get my membership fees back.

What kind of a Beckerhead are you? Don't you know you're supposed to have a GINORMOUS pile of steel whether you use it or not. Neff....I say figure out a way to sneak, wheedle or whatever you need to do to get BOTH the 4 and the 9. They're different knives, each with their own set of pleasures in use. But the 4 first.....it make a most excellent camp and woods bumming tool.

I would really try and grab a 4. They were out of production for quite a while, and I grabbed one immediately when they went back in production. It makes me very happy. As others have said, it's an extremely versitle blade, will prune your crepe myrtle, and will not only replace your estwing hatchet it will be an upgrade. I much prefer it to a hatchet. I believe they are closeout priced at the moment, and sadly are going away. Makes a great pizza cutter so it'll have some use around the condo too.

I wouldn't say sneaky, I just choose not to divulge certain information at times. Would her knowing I'm buying another knife stop me from doing so? Nope sure wouldn't, but it does prevent me from having to explain why new knife F is different from knives A,B,C,D,E and the intended purpose of having A,B,C,D,E, and now F. She's doesn't get it, she sees a pile of knives and assumes a knife is a knife and they all cut stuff why do I need more than 1.

She looked at my bk2, 9, and 16 and all she sees is 3 black knives that are the same pretty much...Not the indestructible force thats the 2, the king of the choppers that's the 9 and the prefect edc the 16 makes.

So at times it's just easier to buy in person if I won't be home to intercept the package...Now if companies would stop sending those Damn invoices in the box it wouldn't be as bad lol

This post completely made my night. I was giggling like a girl. A+++++ sir!

I try to be a practical Beckerhead. Sometimes it doesn't work. You make great points Mike. Looks like a 4 is up next. Damnit!!

Anyone want to trade a 4 for a 7? Lol

If I didn't already have three of all the different varieties (;)), I'd trade you in an instant.

Actually, I totally lucked out at the last coupla gatherings. Ka-Bar sent 7's (and 4's) to the Spring and 4's (again) to the Fall gatherings. So.....each of the knives that I had ONE of - that I irreversibly modified - I was lucky enough to pick up a second (and they are seconds - Ka-Bar drilled them to make sure......) of each.

This thread needs some more pics.

And another, even though it's not in contention for pissing off your spouse:

I think I need more time to photograph all the various Becker permutations.....modified with OEM, stripped with au naturel, Grivory with Micarta, Roll-stamped with laser etch.....yeah. Too many knives - not nearly enough time.
