I want a custom knife made

Wow, Andy discontinued what was one of his best sellers?? Thats pretty odd business strategy, and really sucks for me cuz I'm sure they'll start selling on the aftermarket for even more than they did new from Fiddleback since they're so loved(kinda like the Busse Battle Mistress)

He just told me that he hadnt made one in about 2 years and had no plans to make anymore right now as they are quite a bit of work.

Maybe he'll bring them back someday?

Get a cheap grinder or a file set and a slab of steel. Grind it out yourself, and then send it off to Darrin Sanders on here for heat treat. Won't come out as nice and pretty, but it will be very satisfying to make the knife you want yourself.

Seriously thinking about this as well. It looks like O1 steel is fairly cheap,in case i totally screw it up im not gonna be out too much, and would work for my purposes.

Man Tactical Knives featured the Bow Legged Chopper two issues ago so they are pretty late, I thought maybe it was taking off real big and thats why they ran it. But I didn't even start hearing about them until late '09 so I assumed they were a new release then. I didn't know they were that old already.

FWIW i thought they were newer myself.

NJ steel baron is a good place to get steel. I've been really happy with Darrin's heat treat on 1095 and 5160, but he can handle most steels.

OP, any update? I had actually forgotten about this thread until stgha bumped it. Good looking knife by the way stgha.

buy a flat of metal out of what ever type of exotic metal you want. pick a super steel of your choice or even go for a damacus type of flat. then all you gotta do is to just find a machine shop which can water jet cut metal and have them slice what you want out, have them slice out a few if you got enough metal. Sharpen it roughly and then send it out for heat treat. Put on what ever type of handle you perfer and then either sharpen it yourself or send it out to a pro to sharpen. Cheaper then most other customs especially if its gonna be large and you get exactly what you want.
